All the way down in East Africa many people are in fear as of now. Why? Well, currently there are huge swarms of Locusts that are ravaging their land. They say these swarms are the size of cities. The reason these swarms are dangerous is because they could play a role in hunger. African farmers have already had a pretty tough time in the past when it comes to pests attacking their crops so the Locusts are not helping. A single locust swarm, if it comes into a farmer’s field in the morning, by midday it has eaten the entire field. Scientists are also saying that the number of Locusts in East Africa could expand 500 times by June and there are already millions of them. I think that this issue needs to be more known so that way people around the world can try to help the people of East Africa.

What would you do if you lived in East Africa right now?
If I lived in East Africa right now I would try to leave and go live somewhere else until the Locusts have gone away.
What solutions do you think there could be to this Locust outbreak?
One possible solution could be to bring in predators to maybe scare off the Locusts.

Good summary but you didn't reply to any student comments which is worth 20 points.
If i lived in East Africa i would try to get a lot of canned food in my house and try to hunker down for awhile unless i can afford to leave and avoid the locust all together. I think that they should make a spray for them that they can put out with planes to kill the locust and help solve the problem.
I would probably try and get out of there before it gets to bad because the locusts will get in the area and it will be hard to get out of there. Hopefully there are pests controls to scare off the locusts or something that will eat them to put them away.
I think that I would get as far away as possible from the areas where the Locust outbreak is affecting people. I also think that a solution probably won't be found and people will just have to do their best to survive. There is always some sort of horrible epidemic or outbreak happening in Africa and people in first world countries just plug their ears and go along with their lives.
If I lived in East Africa at the time of this outbreak of locusts I would relocate to a different place if I had the resources such as money. I think that a way to get rid of the locusts could be letting something that would eat the locusts into the enviroment or chemicals that would kill them, however those chemicals could also cause other harm.
A solution to help the locust outbreak is, I agree, bring in other predators like birds that would eat the bugs. I also think that maybe they are just really hungry this season and that is why they are eating everyones crop, so maybe growing kinds of grasses or poisonous plants that they can eat and then die from would be helpful.
If I lived in East Africa and I was a farmer like most people, I would try to find a different job that would make money since I would be losing all the crops in my field because of the locusts. It is hard to make money when you do not have anything to make money off of.
If I lived in East Africa right now, I think I would try to relocate somewhere else where the swarms are not as bad, and return when things are back (or close) to normal. I agree with you that a possible solution is to bring in some predators to lessen the numbers of the locusts.
I disagree with the last thing you said. It is said that numbers can over run something and even if you were to bring a these predators, you would not even make a dent in the locust population. I agree with the first one, get out of there.
If I lived in East Africa right now, I would try to find a place where I could live temperlarly. I would wait for the swarms to size back down and it would be safe for me to return back to my house. I think something like predators or weather could have brought the large amounts of locusts to East Africa.
