For decades, people have believed there is a monster in a famous lake in the Scottish highlands. Scientists did a recent DNA test and found 3,000 species that either live in or have touched the water. Most of the species were very small and none of the DNA was from a monster. Some scientists have not ruled out the theory it could be a giant eel. In 2003, BBC news did a massive search with 600 sonar beams and found nothing. The scientists were surprised at how much eel DNA was found in the water.

Do think that the Loch Ness monster is real, and why?

No, because the DNA test results seem legit and there is no real proof that the loch ness monster is real.

How do you think this mystery of the Loch Ness monster started?

I think that someone a long time ago saw a big animal in the water and didn’t know what it was so they just called it a monster.

  • Good topic choice! I do think your summary could be a bit longer. You also could have replied a few more times.

  • I don't think the monster is real, but its an interesting topic. In reality, though there would not be a possible way for a super large Scottish monster to stay hidden without someone finding it for this many years. I think that back then the person saw what they thought was a 'monster' because of the more accepting culture to the magical. So instead of looking for definitive clues, they called it a monster and the story began to spread.

  • No because most larger species dont servive without a large enough meal. Ithink that someone was out and saw a shadow and was concinced they saw something and started trying to figure it out and thats what they dicided they had seen.

  • No because the Loch Ness monster has not been described as an eel and is a silly myth. I think the mystery started when one person began telling a story about it. After one person told this story, it was probably passed down until iit became a big deal.

  • I don't think it is real because they only have proof or DNA of an eel in most of the water and 300 other types of species. I think it all started by a legend or a story and just made it seem more realistic and just carried it on throughout the past years.

  • 1. - I'd say it's possible. But is their a lot of evidence supporting it besides "eye witness" accounts? Not really, so on the science side of things maybe not. But my open-minded side thinks it might be real.

    2. - A fisherman probably saw an eel looking creature swimming in a way that you wouldn't usually see and spread what we thought he saw around and it quickly grew once "pictures" started to be seen (if they were real pictures that is).

  • I do not think it is real i think it is something that was just made up and there is no real proof that it is real so that means that nobody really actually knows if it is real or not.  I think someone just made it up when they saw a big creature and every since its been a thing.

  • No, I don't think it is real because it says that the found DNA of an eel in all the water. If they wouldn't of found the DNA then yes maybe I would believe it more. I think this all started from someone seeing something big move around the water and thinking it could be a monster. They probably got scared and told someone about it so they started doing investigations and etc. to the water.

  • I think that someone either wanted attention by claiming they saw a monster in the lake, or there used to be something that looked like a monster and everyone made a mistake. I think that the story grew and it just became something interesting that people talk about.

  • No, I don't think that the Loch Ness monster is real. I do wish that she was though, because how cool would a giant eel or monster in this day and age be. Just straight chillin, eating fish, and not having a care in the world.
