The amount of sleep a teen gets each night, affects their behavior, and some could be life-threatening. Studies show that teens who get less than 7 hours of sleep on school nights are more likely to get involved with texting and driving, drinking and driving, riding with someone who has been drinking, and not wearing helmets when on bicycles. Sleep deprivation causes poor judgement and decision-making. In 2011, a test was done and it showed the following results for kids getting less than 8 hours of sleep: cigarette usage, alcohol assumption, marijuana use, feeling sad, attempting suicide. Studies are still being done on this, but the easiest solution is just to get more sleep.

My opinion: I think that this information is quite scary. Kids all the time are running on shortage of sleep, but I never knew the danger that they could get into just by not getting enough sleep. I never would have linked drugs and alcohol to a lack of sleep. I think that parents need to be aware of this as well. Let the teens sleep in, don't force them to get up. They could be putting their kids' life in danger.
Questions:
How many hours of sleep do you think teens need to get each night?
Do you think there is anything else that teens could do to keep them away from the life-threatening behaviors?

Great topic and excellent job!
I normally get around 8, but I know that there are lots of teens who don't. I think that they can tell us all of this and I know that there are still many teens who won't. I think that teens should just try to make better decisions and then there wouldn't be as many problems, but it would be hard to change.
I think we need to get 8-10 hours of sleep a night, but I doubt that will happen. As teenagers we are involved in a lot of school activities and we have jobs and homework. I don't know what else they could do. Maybe drink some coffee to wake themselves up.
I think kids need about 8-9 hours of sleep each night. I think that maybe if we weren't on our phones all the time it could help because social media can bring us down.
Yes, I agree. I think that kids are on their phones too much at night and need to limit their screen time while laying in bed.
Teenagers need 7-8 hours of sleep. I understand that people are in sports, have homework and do other things, but they should know not to stay up all night scrolling through social media, texting someone or watching TV. There are things that could be done for teens to get more sleep, so that they don't have life-threatening behaviors. It is up to the person to make those decisions.
Yes, I think it would help if everyone had a study hall throughout the day. I know some kids have too many core classes, or don't use their study halls wisely, but at least it would give them the chance to get homework done if they wanted to.
I think that more teens don't need to wake up later they just need to sleep earlier. If teens went to bed earlier there wouldn't be any need to wake up late and unorganized. If this happened teens every where would be more productive and much smarter and relaxed. I think teens just need to stop and think about what they do and that would be all that's needed to stop these bad situations.
I think they should get whatever they need until they wake up naturally by themselves.. Teens could just be smarter to keep themselves away from life-threatening things. Every day, so many people make stupid decisions without thinking it through that they regret for a long time.
I think 8 hours is around the minimum amount of sleep that teens should be getting. However, with extra curricular activities and homework, it's difficult to be able to sleep for that long. I also think that less sleep leads to more stress, and that is extremely unhealthy for teens! I think that teens should try a lot harder to get to bed at a decent time, and get into more of a routine that your body can get used to.
I think that the amount of homework could be reduced, or teachers allow more time to do homework in class. This would create less stress late at night and teens could go to bed happier and get a good night's sleep.
