Recruiting fliers, along with candy, are being left at homes in cities across the country, possibly in an attempt to seize on issues of race and immigration that have come to the forefront of public discussion recently. The flier was tucked into a plastic bag along with a membership application, the address for the KKK national office in North Carolina, a list of beliefs and three Jolly Rancher candies. The KKK is throwing fliers out saying "Save our Land, Join the Klan". Carlos Enrique Londoño had laughed at the though of them recruiting him. Carlos in a dark-skinned Colombian. He is a painter and construction worker who has lived in Hampton Bays on Long Island for 30 years. People all along his street and neighborhood were in disgust at the though of something so terrible making a come back. The Klan may be seizing on a time when race and immigration are dominant issues.
Why do you think that the Ku Klucks Klan would try recruiting in such a simplistic way?

Good summary but you didn't reply to anybody!
I think that they are doing it because they are running out of people who want to join it and so they might think that they are going to eventually not have enough resources to continue.
Sounds like the KKK is getting desperate. They probably are losing people and fear that they will soon be a lost cause. There is more and more diversity in the world so white supremacist are starting to disappear.
They are reinforcing the idea of joining the KKK with positive reinforcement-the candy. It's like how you train a dog, and doesn't show that they have much respect for the people they are trying to recruit. I don't know why they would be trying to recruit more people, most likely just to have the numbers to make any difference at all.
Maybe they're planning of something? They need more people to join because maybe they're losing people.
Since they are losing numbers, they are desperate for people to join.
Why wouldn't they? The idea of racism hit the news briefly, and they used that as an opportunity to try and spread the word that they need more people. I doubt the KKK will ever be fully demolished. there's always going to be a few racist people in the world that think their better than colored people.
To look like they aren't a bad clan like they will help you and want you to join because they gave you candy.
I think they are trying to make it seem like they are not a bad group by doing something friendly like giving people candy.
As other people have said, I also think that their numbers are declining so they are trying different ways to recruit members. I think by recruiting in such a simplistic way might be a strategy they are using to persuade more people to join their group. I also think that major issues going on in our country also play a part in the timing of doing this.
