Killer Winds

Dangerously high winds stormed across the country this week and caused incredible amounts of damage. These winds caused the death of a couple in Massachusetts and left thousands without power. These storms dragged snow, thunder, rain, and wind to the Northeast. The authorities released the names of the couple as 49-year-old Franklin and 51-year-old Manuela Teixeira. The couple was killed when a fallen tree landed on their BMW sedan while driving in Abington, Mass. At the height of the storm, utilities reported 46,000 outages in New Jersey and 18,000 in Pennsylvania.

Questions

1. How would you feel if you were caught in the storm?

2. What would you do if you were caught in this storm?

Opinion- If I was caught in this storm I would be very nervous and a little bit scared. With the wind power and the other bad thing the storm brought I would be scared to stay in my home. If I was caught in the storm I would try to drive out of the bad area if that was possible or go in my tornado shelter to stay safe.

  • You didn't reply to any student comments. It is worth ten points for each story.

  • I would be nervous and scared. If i was stuck in it, there isn't obviously a lot I can do. Just hope for the best I guess.

  • Being in a storm is scary, especially when the conditions are really bad. If I was in this bad of a storm I would definitely stay in my house in a safe place. We had bad winds here too.

  • I would be terrified by the storm. I would try to get to the safest area I can and wait till  it died down. Read and relax probably sleep.

  • I would clearly be pretty scared, and I would try and get somewhere safe. I would also stick close to my family so we don't get separated.

  • If I was caught in the storm, I would be very scared and concerned. I am not exactly sure what I would do, or how I would react but I would make remaining calm the number one goal because being overcome with fear just makes things worse and can cause more potential danger. Remaining safe and keeping as many others safe as I could would also be a major goal.

    • I agree, you have to stay calm or things could get worse. It is hard to decide what you would do because when it comes down to it, how you think you will act could be different than how you actually will during something like this.

  • I would be scared if I got caught in a storm like this because mother nature is something that you can't control. I think that this couple should've been warned better about this storm to know better than to go outside.

  • It would be really scary if I would get caught in a storm like that. If I would know that a storm like this comes I definitely would stay home.  If I would be outside at the time the storm starts I would search for a tornado shelter or some kind of save place.

  • It would be scary if I got caught in the storm, But If I can tell it is storming outside I would stay home or where I was at till it passed or slowed down enough so I could go home. If I were caught in it I would stay calm and try to drive away from the storm for my own safety.
