Killer Whale Sneaks up on Paddle Board.

Lukas Reilly was paddle boarding in New Zealand, when he noticed a pod of Killer Whales swimming beneath him. One of the bigger males had come up behind him to investigate. At one point the larger male had bit the back of his board, he managed to keep his balance and avoid falling into the water. Reilly had managed to shake the big creature by yelling at him. Lukas described the encounter as friendly but does admit that he was a little bit nervous being so close to the beasts. He later confessed that he had gone out to try to catch a glimpse of the large mammals when he heard a pod had been sighted near the coast of New Zealand. The Whale Rescue center had stated that is was unusual to see a pod of "killer" whales, despite their name, they are no threat to humans, in the coastal waters near New Zealand. "It's just being in the right place at the right time to notice that they're there. There's no doubt they're curious, they will spend a lot of time checking you out," she added.

  • Again, good but be sure to comment more regularly.

  • I would freak out at first, but since they are just as scared as we are of them, it would be a neat experience. I don't think they are dangerous to mankind because you don't here much about people being killed by them. I would if I knew for sure they wouldn't hurt me.

  • If I was ever in this situation, I would just try and get to shore as fast as I can. I don't believe they're dangerous, and stuff like this doesn't happen all the time.

  • I would keep paddling until I got to the shore. I don't think they're dangerous but keep your distance when you come across one. I wouldn't want to get close to a pod because they could knock you into the water.

  • I would be probably be nervous at first but I would also been very amazed by the animals. I don't think that Killer Whales are generally dangerous, but a couple years ago there was a video/article posted about a killer whale coming onto shore and taking a man out with him never to be seen again.

  • I would be totally amazed and happy if that would happen to me. Orca whales are not dangerous and I don't really know why they are called "killer" whales but they are totally not dangerous. I would definitely want to get close to a pod a whales.

  • I would be freaking out, I dont really now much about killer whales so i'm not for sure. I think it would be cool but at the same time I would be worried about it

  • I would be really scared. Either I would be shocked and hope that nothing happens or I would scream for help and hope that somebody would hear me. I heard something of killer whales but nothing bad. I never thought that they are dangerous. I would love to see them close but not in a big aquarium or something. Just in the ocean that would be awesome.

  • I would be so scared I would call for help and see if anyone can hear me and if not just do what he did and just stand there quietly.. I mean you don't hear anything about a killer whale like biting an arm or a leg off. I mean i don't think they would be till something happens.. and only if they where friendly i would love to and b able to see them and everything up close.

  • I think it would be kind of scary, but cool at the same time. I think the scary part would be that because you don't know how the killer whale is going to approach you. Though, it would be really cool to be that close to a large pod of whales.
