Rampant attacks by giant hornets in northwest China? These horrible hornets have killed 42 people and injured more than1600 others in 2013. More than 1 million people have been committed by Chinese local authorities to fight between the hornets. The question is how are these Asian hornets so toxic? Their stinger is about 6mm. The stinger injects potent venom that contain like bee and wasp venoms. The Asian hornet's venom is 10 times more toxic then bees and wasps though. It can damage tissue which mostly causes humans to die. Since July, victims have been reporting attacks in the area. The hornets leave major sting holes. Depending how bad the stings are, people can spend up to 2 months in the hospital. The approximate deaths per year is around 30 to 50 deaths. Some have spotted Asian hornets in Chicago in the year of 2012. If these Asian hornets get out of control in China, they could become more prevalent in the U.S.
-What do you think will happen if the Asian hornets become more prevalent in the U.S? Do you think the U.S could handle it better on getting these hornets extinct?
-What are your thoughts on this horrible incident going on in China?

Well done Dakota!
These hornets sound like a serious problem. Hopefully China can get it under control. I don't think we need to kill off all the hornets and make them extinct, they may be a meal for another animal that is important to the ecosystem. The hornets need to have a natural predator of some kind, if China could figure out what that was, maybe they could protect their people better. If these hornets ever come to America, we will hopefully be ready for them, but I think they would create havoc for awhile. People would be afraid to go outside of their houses.
I think we don't need to worry about other meals for other animals. These hornets are killing people in China and injuring tons of people. So our main focus is to keep an eye out for China and see how their doing just in case of all possibility the hornets come over to U.S.
I don't think that they could come to the US. They could possibly spread through Asia and Europe, but to get to America, they'd have to cross an ocean either way, and if some managed to get a ride on a boat, they would be killed before any real issue came up except for maybe a sting or two.
Yeah you have a good point there. There is a very slim chance on the hornets coming over to the U.S considering they would have to cross the ocean either way. But, we still have to be on the lookout.
I think the U.S. would be able to handle the hornets fine they have better things to prevent them and kill them so I think we would be fine.
I also think the U.S would handle it better than China.
This is scary. We have had many bugs and animals come over to the US from all around the world. If these hornets did make it to the US I would hope we could find some way to get rid of them quickly.
I know! China isn't really doing much and if they are, it's not very efficient considering 1600 people are getting injured per year. And 40 people dying. I think that the U.S could handle it in a better way. Don't you?
Yeah but they said they have seen this hornets in Chicago. We don't know because it seems like China doesn't really care that these killer hornets are killing people. So, I don't know about that. At the rate China is going nobody really knows where or how these killer hornets will get to the U.S.
