Kevin Durant Receives Boos in OKC Return

Over the summer, Kevin Durant left Oklahoma City to join the Golden State Warriors. Understandably, Thunder fans were very upset with his free agency move. After nine years of being a star on the Thunder he left in order to compete for a championship with a team that had been to two straight. On Saturday night he played his former team and ex-best friend Russell Westbrook in Oklahoma City for the first time since the departure. The reception was overwhelmingly negative as most people booed him when he was introduced.  This is similar to the first time LeBron returned to Cleveland after joining the Miami Heat. Westbrook and Durant had a heated exchange during the game, and Durant also got into it with a couple of his other former teammates.

Do you think he deserved to be booed? Why?

How do you think Durant and Westbrook's relationship will be in the future? Can they repair their relationship?

I don't think he deserved to be booed by fans after how much he was beloved and all of the work he put in. I also don't think he should have been given a standing ovation either because of the way he handled the move. I hope that Westbrook and Durant can be friends again but I don't believe they will ever repair it.

  • Good job Kyle!

  • I don't think that he deserved to be booed. He use to be a player for them and loved by many. It wasn't fair to the team or the fans for him to leave but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. I think that their relationship will never be the same but I hope that they will be able to get back on good terms. I don't think that they will ever be able to repair it. Once you lose a best friends sometimes things will never go back to the way it was.

  • He definitely did not deserve to be booed just by making a choice that would ultimately benefit him and his career. All those fans used to love him and now, just cause he is not playing for their team, they don't like him. It's ridiculous. I think Durant and Westbrook will still be friends just not as good a friends as they were when they played together instead of against each other. I am sure their relationship can be repaired.

    • I disagree because I am not sure that they can repair the relationship. I am hopeful that they can but I do not think that it will be that easy.

    • Hopefully the all-star break will change that and they can talk to each other for the first time since he left. Playing on the same team for a weekend should help.

  • I don't think he should have been booed at because it was his idea to change teams and do what he thought was better. People shouldn't boo at him because of that. In the future I think they will become friends again but it might take some time.

    • I hope that eventually they will work their problems out but right now it looks like they won't. Hopefully time can change that.

  • I don't think that Durant should've been booed because it was his own choice and freewill to join a different team. People don't need to boo other people's choices just because they don't agree with it. I think that Durant's and Westbrook's relationship will be rocky and bumpy. It's up to those two men to try and figure things out.

    • I hope that during the All-Star break when they are on the same team, they will be able to talk things over a little bit and hopefully start to repair their friendship.

  • I don't think he deserved to be booed at. That is just unprofessional in my eyes. Yes, you can be upset but at least act mature about it. People change stuff all the time it should be understood. I don't know either one or their relationship, but I would hope they could sort it out. That, unfortunately, isn't always the case. It depends how the two decide to act.
