Law enforcement officials struggled to understand how this small town has become the latest American community to be shaken by a mass shooting. They tried figuring out why an attacker has gunned down three people and injured 14 others before being killed by police. In some ways, the violence was familiar, a lone gunman described as troubled targeting a place he knew. Cedric Larry Ford, 38, had randomly sprayed bullets at the lawn-mower factory where he worked. Clues emerged about a possible motive; Ford was described as depressed and has been served with a restraining order just before the attack, which police said probably led to the attack.

Questions
1. Do you think he committed this crime as revenge? Why?
2. If he would not have killed himself, what do you think his punishment should have been? Why?
My opinion- I think that he did this as revenge. The article said he was served with a restraining order right before he attacked this place and he could have been angry.
I think life in jail would be a very appropriate punishment for him because what he did was wrong.

I assume that because of the depression he was really sad and was on some medication and he couldn't handle the pain anymore. I think it was revenge because he had just received a restraining order. I think he should spend life in prison with no bail, this was a terrible crime and he deserves to be punished for it.
Yes I do because he may have been mistreated there or something went down at work. I think he would have been prison for many many years.
I think this was an act of revenge but not that only. I think this person did this because they were either depressed or mentally ill. It seems like this is happening more and more because people with mental health issues don't or can't get the help they need. I think that this person should have spent the rest of his life in jail. It is terrible for the families of the people who were murdered and he should be locked up so he can't hurt anyone anymore.
It could of been for revenge, and maybe also because he had depression or maybe both! Well, he killed three people and injured fourteen others, he should spend life in jail so he can face the consequences. People need to stop killing others, they know its bad and they still do it. Its very upsetting that this is happening, there has been worst shootings and I am starting to lose faith in humanity.
I could see why he would do this as an act of revenge, I am sure he was very mad. I think he should have gotten life in prison or the maximum time for three murders and injuries of 14 people with a deadly weapon.
I very easly could have been for revenge but that is a little extreme. I think he should spend life in a jail or mental institution for his actions.
It might have been for revenge, but being depressed and holding things in for so long is not the best thing to do. He probably just got passed that point and snapped. I'm not sure, probably charged with Murder, it's just sad that all of these bad things are happening in our world.
I think that a lot of people spend years bottling up their anger and never have any release points on the way, so when they final do reach their breaking point, it's catastrophic. He probably committed the act off of revenge that has been "brewing" for a long time.
There are some crazy people in the world and I'm not sure if it is better to try to understand why they did it, or just try to prevent others from doing it again in the long run. Did he commit it as revenge? possibly. Could the restraining order have been the last straw? I think that this second question better answers why Ford would have gunned down his coworkers. I think that his punishment should have been whatever the 3 counts of murder would have gotten him, which probably would have been life in prison.
