Jayme Closs Kidnapping Suspect Arrested

The teen had been missing since early Oct. 15, when Barron County deputies responding to a 911 call found her parents, James Closs, 56, and Denise Closs, 46, shot to death in the family home in Barron. After three months of searching, Jake Thomas Patterson was charged with the murder of Jayme Closs' parents and kidnapping her. Jayme Closs was found alive, about an hour north of her hometown. She was found malnourished, and bedridden. When taken to the hospital, the doctors did not seem to find very much damage to the young girls body. "Everybody is so happy, We can't believe it." The family was ecstatic to see her returned safely.

Questions:

1.) How do you think Jayme was able to survive for 88 days in the conditions?

2.) What would you have done in her families situation? Would you have given up hope or kept believing for her to be returned?

  • 1. I think that she tried to take care of herself and k new what she had to do to survive.

    2. I probably would of kept hoping that she was alive for a long time. I think after a couple years I would start to question if she was still alive.

  • I think she survived because she was in a safer spot and as I read it she wasn't hurt as bad as the other people. If my family was in this situation, I would be freaking out and search everyday but if no one could find them then I would always believe they would return safely back home.

  • Well I think judging on the docter's responce, I think that she was in a house with food and stuff. If I had a family member missing, I would probably look for about 5 years then just hope they found their way home.

  • I think she was able to survive because the kidnapper probably didn't hurt her as bad as people thought and she had to have had a food and water source near her. If I was her family I wouldn't have given up hope or searching until her body was found or until the kidnapper said that they had killed her and told where the body was.

  • I think that Jayme was able to live that long because she probably had some way of getting the food and water that she needs. If she didn't have any access to those things then she probably would have died. If I were her parents I would have kept searching until I heard officially that she was dead.

  • I think she survived that way because the damage might not have been as severe as everyone thought. I would have helped looked for her, I wouldn't give up hope because anything is possible. I understand that her family is happy that she's okay but what about her parents?

  • I think that all a family can do is hope that their child is still alive. No one wants to believe that their child is gone for good. I find it hard to understand how happy everyone is that she returned. Her parents were shot to death and now she has no parents to come home to. I think that her rescue is amazing, but her parents being shot to death puts a dimmer on things.

  • Jayme probably had hope that helped her not give up those 88 days and she wanted to see the rest of her family again and she fought to stay alive. I would have bealived for her return if I was apart of her family I probably would've known she was a fighter and knew she would be found and return home safely.

    • I agree that she must have kept hope, and give it all she could to make it out. I think that I probably would have tried to keep all hope but would have struggled to do so. Things like that can go on for years, and you never know if you will ever see them again.
