Italy trying to stop spread of Coronavirus

The Italian government in Italy stated that all sporting events are to be played “behind closed doors” until April 3rd. Placing a suspension on all events/games for a few weeks. But, games can be played “behind closed doors,” which means they can still play, but there can be no public attendance. They have already postponed many Serie A soccer games, which has angered many competitors. The government also stated that all the sporting clubs and teams need to do check ups on the athletes frequently, to make sure they have not been in contact with the virus By putting this in Italy hops to have no more cases of the coronavirus, as there has been 3,000 cases throughout Italy. Do you think the Italian government is doing the right thing? I do think they are doing the right thing, it was smart of them to try and take matters into their own hands. Hopefully by doing so, they are able to stop cases of the corona.

Why do you think some athletes are mad? I think some athletes are mad, because they are unable to play soccer games for awhile. It’s hard for athletes to go a long period of time without having any game action.

  • Well done Claire!

  • I think it was smart. The government has to do something at some point and now they act (especially since the virus is pretty spread in Italy already). I think they are mad because they can’t move on with what they love to do and that they may aren’t in the right shape anymore when the training is going on. I also could understand that people who would like to watch the games are disappointed because they can’t support the players during that time anymore.

    • Very true! They would have had to do something at some point before it gets way out of hand. It is good that they tried their best to put this in as soon as possible to prevent spreading. I think if they would've waited any longer they would have been very sorry.

  • I agree with you. yes, I think they are doing the right thing. The Government is trying to be smart and take matters into their own hands and it shows that they care about their people. The reason why the players are mad is probably that there will be no fans but they should also remember that the government is just trying to help them.

    • The government is being very smart! That is true, I think a lot of the players are not realizing that this will help them in the long run. I think they probably think they won't get coronavirus but they very easily could.

  • I don't think they are doing the right thing becuase its not right to stop it completely. It was a better idea to just play behind closed doors and have check ups every few days or so. The athletes are very mad because they don't get to do what they love to do.

    • I would personally have to disagree. I think that it is great that the Italian government is trying to do their best to help. I would be concerned if they were not trying to help everyone out. I think it is also a great idea that they are having annual check-ups.

  • I think Italy is doing the right thing because they're trying different ways to stop the spread showing that they really care about their people. I think some athletes are mad not just because they can't play soccer but because they might not believe cancelling games is even worth it in the long run and might not even help with the spread.

    • I also agree that they are doing the right thing, showing that they care for their community really makes an impact on their society. That is a good reason, but I think that not having the games will help with the spread.

  • Yes i think the government is doing the right thing by keeping people with the virus seperate but as long as they recorde the games people might not be to happy. I can see how some athletes are angry because the fans are not there but also the government has to protect its people and if this is the way they want to do it then we cant really argue.
