ISIS supporter in New York

A 26 year old New York resident by the name of Sajmir Alimehmeti is an Albanian Turned US citizen. He lives in his apartment and there was an islamic state flag and a variety of weapons found scattered throughout. He was sentenced to 22 years and was called a ticking time bomb. He also admitted he owned material that showed his support for the ISIS terrorist group. This consisted of the flag, weapons, and pictures of jihadist fighters. Even after being locked up he continued to support ISIS by working with convicted  Chelsea bomber Ahmad Khan Rahimi to distribute ISIS propaganda.

If you were living in an appartment and you saw a suspicious characterm like Sajmir, what would you do?

I would let the owner of the hotel know or the police.

Do you think he was a threat to New York and why?

I think he was a threat to New York because ISIS supporters or members have a history with terrorist attacks and military grade weapons were found in his apartment.

  • Personally I think that you can never be too cautious. I think in this situation I would immediately notify the police. I would never want to be the person who allowed an attack to occur because I didn't take any action after seeing suspicious activity. I definitely think that he could have been a threat to New York. ISIS is a known terrorist group against the U.S so I 100% think that he could have been preparing for something. However, if he was planning something I am wondering why he would make it obvious that he was apart of the group. This is extremely scary and eye opening.

  • I would immediately call the police in this incident. I do believe that this person was a threat to New York because he was openly supported a terrorist group that is known to hate the Western World, Especially the United States.

  • I would probably not tell anyone because with my luck I would get called a racist because the guy is a muslim. I'm not risking anything just cause a guy has some guns.  I don't really care if he is a threat because it will not affect me because I'm a 1000 miles away.

  • I agree with you, if I saw a supicious person around my apartment, I would be quick to tell the owner of the apartment or the police. I think he might be a threat to New York, but since he got out of jail, he might have changed his outlook on everything, but I would still keep a close eye on him.

  • If I saw a 'suspicious character' like Sajmir, I wouldn't worry about him until there was actual evidence that I should be concerned. I do not think he was a threat to New York. If he was a threat, he would've been arrested for a different reason.

  • I would maybe either move or like you say contact hotel owner or maybe go to the police. I think he might be a threat but also if he got out of jail he might've changed from his old ways. I think they should have people watching him just to make sure nothing happens.

  • I would probably let the police know immediatly that there is a suspisious man living in the appartment im in and he seems to be a supporter of ISIS. I think if he is a ticking time bomb like they said he was yes he is definitely a threat to society and would probably end up hurting lots of people.

  • Saying that he was a threat to New York is questionable. He had not acted in a violent way. He had not bothered people with his beliefs. He did not run around in the streets with his material or weapons. I do not believe he was a treat.

  • If I were living in an apartment with a 'suspicious' character like Sajmir, I would mind my own business. Unless there is absolute, undeniable evidence that I should be concerned, I do not have a reason to suspect him.

  • I would probably look past it nad not worry about it untill he does something that scares me then I would take it to the police and warn them that there is someone dagerous.  Yes becasue he said he supports isis and for all we know he could have been working with them to attack New York.
