Isabella Guzman

Who is Isabella Guzman? Isabella was an 18 year old girl that was charged with first- degree murder. In 2013, she stabbed her mother to death, a total of 151 times in her face in the upstairs bathroom of their home.

Her and her mother had a difficult relationship. Isabella's mother, Yun Mi, became concerned with her behavior and had called the police on Isabella, earlier the day she was murdered. Police visited the home and said that Isabella's mother could kick her out because of her behavior. Isabella's biological father had talked to her hours before the accident happened. Her father said that their talk seemed to calm her down, but realized that didn’t happen a few hours later when “this thing” happened.

The night of the accident, Yun Mi (Isabella's mother), went to take a shower after work. Isabella's step father heard a thump coming from the upstairs bathroom.  Her step father, Ryan Hoy was downstairs during the accident. He then called the police after seeing blood pooling underneath the door of the bathroom. While he was on the phone with the police, Ryan said he wasn't able to get into the bathroom because Isabella wouldn’t let him in. Moments later, the bathroom door opened and he saw Isabella standing there with a knife in her hand. According to Ryan, Isabella didn’t say anything when exiting the bathroom. she just looked straight ahead and walked past him. Ryan told the police that Isabella had left the house with the knife as he tried to perform chest compressions on his wife. Ryan believed she was already dead as he appeared to just be staring blankly. When the officers arrive at the scene, they discover Isabella's mother on the bathroom floor covered in blood. She has suffered multiple stabs to the face and neck.

The next afternoon, officers arrested Isabella after spotting her in a parking lot. Later, Isabella entered an insanity plea. The judge accepted it after a psychological evaluation found that she had been suffering from a mental illness called paranoid schizophrenia. It gives you symptoms that blur lines between what is real and what isn’t, making it difficult for the person facing the illness to have a typical life. Isabella is getting treatment for her illness at Pueblo Psychiatric Hospital, Colorado.

Isabellas went viral on Tik-Tok after someone had posted a video of her in court. Video shows her having no emotion and smiling and making faces at the camera. Here’s the link to the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JW8IOIPYLis

If you saw her stabbing her mother, what would you do?

if you were her sister or brother, what would you think about the whole thing?

  • While your summary is good, I am not a fan of accident/murder stories as it leads to questions like your first question. You did do a good job reoplying back to people. -10 late one day.

  • It's strange that her parents hadn't noticed something before the incident. They obviously had some severe problems and it couldn't of been the first time if the police got involved. I'm in no way saying that it's there fault, some just don't know. However, had she received help before, her mother would probably still be here, which is the sad part.

  • I would call the police imediately even though it might not help the mother that was being stabbed especially if she was stabbed over a hundred times. There probaly wouldn't be any help for her survivial. However she should go to jail.

  •  The parents should have noticed her behavior was a bit off as she had paranoid schizophrenia. A mental illness like that is very noticeable and it does distort one's perception of reality. She may not have even noticed what she was doing until she was doing it or until after she had already done it. If I had seen her stabbing her mom, I would have obviously tried to pull her away the best I could have without getting hurt in the process. If I were her sister, I would be very scared of her but also concerned for my sister as she has a serious mental illness. Mental illnesses are no joke and can heavily contribute to one's decision making skills, so I'm glad she's receiving treatment at a hospital.

  • Parents should of noticed this, if Isabella sufffered from paranoia schizophrenia they should of noticed the behavoir. I mean living with someone that suffers from a mental decease is often times not that noticible, yet something like this one they shoudl noticed at least something. If I saw my sister doing this I would rush to my mothers aid and call for help. I would offer her help but to a limit.

  • I I was this particular person in questions brother I would fear for my saftey long after she is imprisoned within the confines of a mental hospital.

    • I would be scared to.

  • I would immediately get help and control her sister by getting her somewhere away from the area of the house and the mother. I would definitely have a hard time trying to speak or be nice to her if she was my sister. I do understand that Isabelle had some mental health issue and some health issues but that also shouldn't be an excuse to do something to this extent. Isabelle should've gotten the help her mother wanted to provide her with so that this wouldn't happen.

  • Well obviously if I saw her stabbing her mother I would call the police. If I were related to her I would feel very betrayed and scared. If my sibling killed our mom I would be in shock. It must be very difficult for families to deal with family members doing such violent crimes because on one hand, you've always loved them, but on the other hand, they just did something so horrible.

    • I would be shocked too. It would also be very are to deal with.
