Sunday, November 1st marks another end to Daylight Saving Time. Many people will wander around their house switching clocks on their stoves, microwaves, radios, and other places. Sure, you get an extra hour of sleep when we turn the clocks back, but many people will be commuting home from work in the dark.
Daylight Saving Time started in the 20th Century. The US Government started moving in and out of Daylight Saving Time during World War I because the Germans were doing it and they claimed they were doing it to save fuel. After this war ended, the US Government also stopped using Daylight Saving Time. However, during World War II it came back again, claiming to conserve resources. Daylight Saving Time has stuck ever since.
Numerous polls say that people want to stay in Daylight Saving Time year round, or at least stick with Standard or Daylight time and stop switching clocks. In fact, Arizona and Hawaii have already switched to keeping their clocks the same all year.
In 2008, the US Department of Energy said that extending Daylight Saving Time would save enough energy to power 100,000 households for a year. Daylight Saving Time is also proven to save lives. If we stay in the same time year round, we don't have to lose an hour of sleep (like we do in the spring) and aren't jolted awake in the darkness- which is proven to be bad for your health.
So why not skip the switching of clocks all together?
Do you think Daylight Saving Time is necessary? Why? How would you convince the government to keep or get rid of Daylight Savings Time?
I always thought Daylight Savings was just a normal routine thing that we always just had to do. Now looking at these statistics, I see that it would be more beneficial to us to stay in the same time year-round. I think that if we show the science behind it, the government would heavily consider getting rid of this.

Again, super job!
I've never understood what daylight saving time accomplishes but clearly it does some goo things. We should probably keep it around.
I really do not mind daylight savings time. If it saves us energy, I think that it is a great idea.
I don't really know if changing it would really affect anything because everyone is so used to it, but i do think it's kind of unnecessary
I agree with you! I always used to this that this was just something we had to do, but now that science proves otherwise, it is somewhat unnecessary.
I think it should stay at one time because changing it around causes some problems.
I agree! Now that there is scientific evidence to prove this, I think the government should re-think their decisions.
At first I thought Daylight Savings was unnecessary, and only gave us an extra hour of sleep, but looking at the evidence of how much energy it saves, and how it effects our health, I think that we should keep it. This evidence should be enough to convince the government to keep it.
I agree with you! I think it is hard to prove science wrong!
I think that it would be good to stop changing times, because if you have a ways to drive from home after daylight savings time ends and it is dark outside there is more of a risk of getting in a car accident by hitting a deer or other animals. When we begin daylight savings time everyone loses an hour of sleep which makes everyone tired at work or school.
