You might have heard the term IA art going around, or you haven’t at all. AI art is something that artificial intelligence creates, whether it be music to actual art. Nowadays people who have access to the internet can hop on an AI art website and create “art”.
How this started was from a guy named Harold Cohen. He created the AI named Aaron in the late 1960s. Aaron would help him create black-and-white drawings. Though AI art started to become more popular in 2014. Soon enough Ganbreeder launched in 2018, then rebranded to Artbreeder using GAN models. GAN stands for generative adversarial networks and they create new data from the training data you used. Then someone under the name Obvious made headlines for selling a painting called Edmond de Belamy. It was created using GAN models and cost $432,500. After that an AI company called OpenIA started from Elon Musk and Sam Altman created a free website called Dall-E. Dall-E would use text prompts to create images, along with Google's own website that would come in 2022. After that more websites would be created, whether they were free or had a subscription there were many.
The thing is, with all of these websites now, they need to be able to learn, they need an algorithm. So, that's what the people who made these websites did. They would take digital made art from the internet and give it to their AI, they also even used real people’s pictures for this too.
Why people like AI art is because it could cause things to get done faster, like shows and movies. It allows everyone to create art too, not just people who have “artistic ability”. It can also bring new ideas to the table, something that has never been done before. They also allow writers to help visualize places and characters without having to hire someone or try to draw them themselves.
The other reason why so many artists think this is an issue is because they don’t have any credit given to them and it also could cause artists to lose jobs and possibly potential money since companies won’t need them anymore, we have AI. It also takes away all the hard work real artists do to get where they are today, or sometime in the future. Some people may say that people use each other’s art to learn so why can’t AI’s, but every person has their own style and creative mind and they can add on their own touch. While with AI generated art it just combines multiple ideas to create art, but no personal style or touch. The other problem is that prompt AI art generators just need someone with some good vocabulary and boom they have their “own piece of art”.
After seeing all the information on all of this, AI art is bad. It harms job opportunities for artists, especially since I might want to be in the art industry when I’m older. Also, AI art tends to mess some things up, like the amount of hands on a person. I can see how it’s easier, but it’s like self-checkout. What's the point in having people check you out when you can do it yourself. You also may think it’s cool that you can make art with this generator, but you could also try learning yourself because there is no “artistic ability” either. It just depends on how much time you want to spend practicing and learning what you want to draw. Anyone can draw, you just have to learn like anything else in this world. Crediting is also very important, because it allows you to spread information about other amazing artists and their skill. Again like what was stated, when people draw, they use references, they use things from real life along with other artists, but they add their own touch and style. Overall, we should try to not support AI art and support artists who work hard to get where they are now.
What do you think of AI art?
Where do you think art will end up with these websites?

Love the topic choice! Great job Tatiana!
I will respect your opinions, even though I strongly disagree with you. I can see how people may like it, though I wish that art used from other artists were credited. (people will sometimes credit art that was referenced).
I do not like A.I art at all because it discredits real artists and takes away the artistic aspect of art. A.I art in my eyes isn't real art because its just a simple duplicate format of technology and is going to make people indolent. A.I art removes the creativity and imagination of creating your own piece of artwork. It also can steal an image made by a real person and could copyright and steal people's artwork. It could be somewhat useful to create a simple thing but it shouldn't be used to make "art."
A.I art should not be used very often. I think that it takes away any creativity that actual artists have. It's basically a copy and paste art site. And now, as technology is taking over more and more jobs, and making lots of things way easier to do, A.i art will just make people lazy when it comes to art. Why have an art class if you can just type in what you want to create? It takes away some of the fun of making your own ideas come to life.
I don't really understand why peolpe would need the AI art. I just think that "artists" would start using it to cheat the system. I know that artists usually work pretty hard on their art, and I think that this is an unfair atvantage, and it's not really the "point" of art. Because art is supposed to be creativity, and this isn't creative.
Yes, I agree with everything you said, as an artist I take pride in my work and take around an hour just to draw and color a character while an AI can pull a background and character in 30 seconds.
I think AI art can be used as a form of cheating, and is a bad thing. When using AI art, sometimes you may not even tell if a human created an art piece or if an AI did. AI can manage to create things really quickly, although for us, it takes time and hard work.
I think AI art is a bad thing. Alot of people spend so much time on their art work. AI can do art in less then 30 seconds. AI has evolved overtime and it will get better and better overtime. I think in the future, it could overpower real art work and soon people won't be able to tell if an AI make it or a human.
I agree with you, but there is art today that's hard to tell if it's made by an artist or not, which is very unfortunate.
