Lyra Mckee, 29, was an upcoming investigative journalist when she was shot and killed. Police in Northern Ireland arrested two teens on April 20th for their connection with the killing. The shooting took place during a riot in Londonderry. The two were arrested under anti-terrorism legislation and transported to Belfast. They have not yet been charged or identified.

After reading this, would you want to be a journalist writing a story during a riot?

I would not want to be a journalist trying to get information during a riot. It doesn't seem like the safest thing and people at riots are already agitated. You would never really know what was going to happen.

Do you think that she could have been talking to suspects of her murder?

I think it is very possible that she was trying to talk to them, but one can never really know. They may not have liked her questions. There are many possibilities.

  • Overall, your summary is very brief. You did comment well but then stopped. Continue commenting throughout the week.

  • I don't think i would be a reporter. But I wouldn't want to be especially after reading this because there is a lot of risk in going to a riot when there would most liekyl be weopons. It is possible that she was talking to them and they didn't like what she was saying.

  • I would not want to be a journalist in the first place. I don't feel like that would be my type of job before reading this anyway. It could very possibly be true, but I do not know.

  • If I knew I could get to a safe place, I would be willing to be in the middle of a riot. I agree she could have been talking to the suspects, and she asked the wrong question. Unless someone comes foward we won't know the truth.

  • I dont think I would want to just becuase there lots of people out there that will disagree with what your write or think which can lead to what happened with the shooting

possibly I think they watied untill they were close to her where they could talk or just close enought to shoot her

  • 1. I would probably not want to be because I would not want to be a part or in a riot because a lot of bad stuff happens.

    2. I think she could've been talking t them and just made them mad so they wanted to kill her.

  • I would not want to be a journalist writing a story during a riot. There are already people angered in some manner and writing stories on the issue could cause their anger to turn towards the writer. I would play it safe and stick to reading the articles rather than creating them myself. It is likely that the dead journalist had some connection to the two teens that killed her. Although, it is possible the shooting was completely random as well.

  • I don't think anyone would want to be in this situation, especially if there a journalist. It's not safe and you get a lot of hate for being one. It can be very bias on a side of a story and some people get very upset. I don't know.

  • I agree with you. I personally would not want to be a journalist writing a story during a riot for safety reasons. Riots can easily get out of hand, so something like this can be expected. It is possible that she talked to her murders on a personal level about their beliefs on the riot too. That could have sparked some tension between them and eventually contributed to the killing.

  • 1. It depends what I'm writing about. If I'm just writing stories on good things happening during this time like a new baby being born I'm not sure why people would see the need to kill me.

    2. I don't really understand why she would be unless she was interviewing them or something. I doubt she was because people don't just interview them in a private area there's usually others around.
