Taraneh Alidoosti, an actress from Iran, is the lead in the foreign movie, "The Salesman". "The Salesman" is a nominee in the Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscar's next month. Alidoosti, in protest of President Trump's Visa ban, has said on social media that she won't be attending the Oscar's this year. She believes that "Trump's visa ban on Iranians and others is a racist move and unacceptable". Donald Trump plans to temporarily ban refugees from African and Middle Eastern countries from getting visa's as a precaution against terrorism. A majority of these countries are Muslim. This is not the first time Taraneh Alidoosti has done a controversial thing. She was spotted last year with a "Woman Power" tattoo on her arm although tattoos are frowned upon in her country.

Do you think Alidoosti is right in protesting? Why or why not?

How do you think the public will respond to Alidoosti's protest?

My opinion: I think it's important for everyone's voice to be heard. I think it's good that Alidoosti is protesting for what she believes. This is a controversial topic, and I think the public will respond in two ways. The majority  will agree with the actress, but others may be tired of all the other celebrity protests and disapprove of her absence from the Ocsar's. There are so many people with so many opinions on the Visa ban, and we all need to respect each other's views.

  • Well done Macy!

  • If she wants to protest let her. She should know that it won't really do anything though because does she really think not coming to the Oscar's will change Trump's mind? I think the public won't change response those who don't like the ban will continue not liking it and those who like it will continue to like it.

  • The only way the american people can show trump how they feel is by protesting and by this actor protesting it will show americans to get out there and protest. I think americas who are against him are going to keep protesting and fighting for what they belive.

  • I do not think it is right because the Oscars does not control Donald Trump. It it not their fault for what he does or doesn't do and they should have people hate on they for it.

  • I think she has the right to protest and I can understand the why she is upset but I think the citizens need to respect the decisions of the President. I don't think  the public will be too upset about this actress not being there. I think that the people will be more concerned about the actual ban on visas instead of just one actress not going to the oscars.

  • I think the public will be on her side just because nobody really agrees with Trump on his travel bans when its been too soon to tell if this will have an effect on american.

  • I don't think she is doing the right thing in protesting this yet because it too soon to tell if they well help or hurt the country yet. Its nice that people are voting their opoins on this but it is way to soon to tell if this will do any damage to the country.

  • Of course, she has the right to protest anything she disagrees with! As a resident of the United States she is able to exercise her right of freedom of speech, regardless of anyone's opinions. It seems other actors are planning on protesting and sharing their own personal views at the Oscars as well. Although, a small part of the audience might not agree with her, seeing as for the past two years the Oscars has had a very big problem with diversity.

  • I do not know if it is right because it is too soon to tell. What I do know though is that she has a right to do this, and because she wants something changed, she is doing something. I think it will be controversial because some will definitely support, some will not really care and others will be strongly against.

  • Yes, she has a cause and wants something to be changed. I think that many people will look at her as a role model to protest against things they believe in.
