Iowa’s New Transgender Law
Thursday, March 3, 2022, marks a new and important date. This is the day that Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed a bill prohibiting transgender girls and females from participating in women's sports. This includes high school and college sports. Gov. Kim Reynolds states “This is a victory for girls sports in Iowa.” Iowa becomes the 11th state to apply transgender rules on sports. All of which 11 have been passed within the past two years. Many people are pleased with this bill, but on the other hand, many people are “disgusted” with the new law.
Those who are for the new law say that this creates fairness for women. Due to testosterone levels, men are naturally stronger and more muscular. They are also more prone to building muscles compared to women. Another advantage for men is they on average have larger organs such as the heart and lungs and less body fat. Many times, men contain higher hemoglobin levels, which is the protein in your blood that carries out oxygen. Overall, people find it unfair due to the many advantages transgender women have. Individuals feel that natural-born women are shorted and are slighted when it comes to the sports that women work and train hard for. I agree with these people.
On the other hand, others disagree and think that it is only unfair to exclude transgender women. Some think that no matter what gender you identify as you should be able to participate in the sports you enjoy. Daily Nebraskas counter claim even states, “Sorry to say this folks, but if you’re getting beat by another woman in a competition, maybe you should be more worried about getting better instead of attacking another woman because she is transgender.” Meaning that we should be less worried about the gender of the women who are racing and more about getting better at the sport/activity.
After all of the research I did, I still strongly believe that it is unfair for transgender women to compete in these sports. I think that the advantages are real, and create an unfair playing field. I think that the bill that was passed in Iowa is a good thing, and I support it. I hope to see other states begin to follow suit and begin to do the same.
Do you think that transgender women have an advantage?
Should they be able to compete?

Great topic choice and very well done Cade! I would like to see you point out studies that say that transgender women do have an advantage. There was one that came out about a year ago.
I think you transgender people should be forced to compete in their birth gender. There is a big difference between a boy and girls sport. I think it's unfair for guys to play against girls. Girls that are good in sports would be hard to be better than most guys.
I think transgender females should not be able to be in the same sport as a female because they still have a huge genetic advantage against women. It could be very unfair for the females in this sport.
In my opinion transgender females shoudln't be able to play female ports because they will have a huge advantage no matter what spot it is going to be in. and they should not be able to compete
I think that if you are transgender, you shouldn't be able to play the sport that you changed to. Especially with female sports they have a clear advantage and it shouldn't be that way. If it was my choice I just wouldn't let them play sports.
I dont think that transgener women should be able to play female sports because biologically they still have an advantage. I beleive it is unfair to the women in sports who dont have that advantage.
You should have to play the sport as what you were born as. Because not even being a male going into girls sports but having a girl go into guys sport is also unfair because they have no chance. So I think you should have to participate in the sport and gender you were born as.
No I think that if you are a transgender you should stay in the same gender when you are in sports. Because if you were a guy and you change into a transgender you should be playing sports with guys not girls because you still have genes for a boy which you will have the advantage.
No. It's not fair to the real females. I don't care what you say you are, but when your trying to involve yourself in real female sports, thats over the limit. It's gross in my opinion. You can't just all the sudden say "I'm a female" while clearly your a male, and expect people to like you and be okay with it. No they should not be able to compete. They would obviously have a higher advantage than us.
You were either born with male parts or female parts. End of story.
I think that the whole transgender thing is very very stupid and that it should be banned because you should have to be the gender that your were born with and that you shouldn't be able to change your gender because that is just weird and it shouldn't be allowed.
