Websites such as Wikipedia, Reddit, Craigslist, Minecraft and even Google are all blacking out today to protest SOPA and PIPA, bills going through congress that would make it possible to shut down websites because of copyright infringement. This would mean someone uploaded copyrighted material to Youtube or another such site, the website would be held responsible and be shut down. The websites blackingout in protest all have links to information about PIPA and SOPA.  What do you peoples think of this protest, and what do you think about SOPA and PIPA? are these bills really as bad as they say? and if it is will this protest get the attention of congress?

  • These websites, especially Wikipedia, have been very useful in the past, and had had millions of hours of stuff being put on there. There is no need to take these down, because after this happens and the worst in is store, live would change forever as we know it. I think eventually everyone will learn right from wrong and is going to blow over.
  • This problem needs an extremely complex and tactical solution in order for it to be resolved. These bills are very basic and will not solve the problem at all. They don't know how to swiftly solve the issue so they try and pass a bland bill designed to wipe out a majority of the internet altogether. For example, 40 hours of content is uploaded to Youtube every minute. Under this bill, the Youtube administration would be expected to make sure that there isn't any copyrighted material in any of that media, which just seems ridiculous.
  • I understand that they don't want people to copyright, but many people use these websites, especially Google, for research. I hope congress does not pass this bill; these websites are all used very often.
  • I'm pretty sure these congressman use google, youtube and wikipedia on a weekly basis so I feel like they're making a huge mistake by trying to do this. This is what the internet is all about - compliling all this information together. I see how they want to poeple to stop breaking copywriting, but I feel like it'll just make things worse!
  • i think the the bill seems dumb i hope congress doesn't pass it..
  • A lot of people use those websites on a daily basis. I really hope congress gets the message and doesn't pass the bill.

  • I personally couldn't do without some of the sites that are blacking out for SOPA/PIPA protest.
