Two fourth-grade students from Massachusetts put their heads together on a way to make their neighborhood safer for children in the area. Isa and Eric have designed an inexpensive 3D crosswalk that makes it seem as though there are raised pillars in the road. The new crosswalk makes drivers stop and think. It allows for children in the area to cross safely and not have to worry about drivers speeding through. This idea came about after Eric’s brother about got hit by a speeding car. They worked with the Center for Citizenship and Social Responsibility to work out their plans and just after a year they now have a new crosswalk in place. The optical illusion has also been picked up in Canada.
Do you think this optical illusion will upset some drivers that can’t decipher the illusion? Why or why not?
I think that it will upset some drivers, as it could take a while to figure out if it's an illusion or not and even so they would try to get around it without messing up their car and could make them late.
Do you think this should be implemented in our community? Why or why not?
I don't think it's a good idea in our community as it is small and people would figure it out, so the crosswalk would lose its effectiveness. But in larger city areas I could see it being very useful.

Well done Reanna!
I think it will upset driver for some time then they will get used to it and know that it is just an illusion then start ignoring it and just keep going like before they were there. I don't think it should be used in our community becuase the streets aren't as busy because we are a smaller community.
I agree because with a smaller population there is more chance of people driving past it every single day and figuring it out and then ignoring it.
I think sense they say ite been working and that now other countries are starting to use the idea that most drivers are starting to get used to it
I mean it wouldent be a bad idea if it was but we dont have that many car accidents around harlan so it isent needed
It could, but I believe that it has the possibility to cause more good in the community than bad. Something like this in our community would be kind of cool to see, so I would be in favor of it.
I disagree because people would eventually not care and know it's an illusion anyway.
I think that it will upset some drivers. What if some can't see that its an illusion every easily? It's hard for some people to see illisions. I thinks something like this should be in our community, but I don't know if the illusion would be best.
I'd be one of those drivers who wouldn't be able to decipher the illusion. I don't think all drivers who can't decipher the illusion will be upset, but I do think quite a few will be.
I agree with your answer. Since our community is small, people would figure it out and the crosswalk would no longer be effective.
I think that the courthouse would get too many complaints about the crosswalk that it would become an issue with the community
Yes, the optical illusion will make it very hard for the drivers to figure out if it is okay for them to continue driving or if they need to find a new route because it appears that something is actually blocking their path. However, this optical illusion benefits the people more and I think that the optical illusion crosswalk should stay. I strongly agree with your second answer. I think that the crosswalk would not be very effective in our small town.
