Inmate Caught Falling Through Ceiling

On January 21, a 42 year old woman, Jessica Boomershine, fell through a jail ceiling while in a holding room. The incident was caught on the surveillance cameras around the room. While Boomershine was in the holding room, she decided to try and escape while no cops were looking. The inmate took one of the chairs near her, slid it under one of the tiles above her and tried to escape, while other inmates cheered her on. The surveillance cameras had shown Boomershine disappearing into the ceiling, when suddenly, the tiles broke from under her. The cops ran into the holding room and removed her from the ceiling, causing her to fall head first into a trash bin. According to county jail records, she was charged with escape and vandalism. Kyle Lennon, her attorney, had declined to comment on the incident to The Associated Press.

How do you think the cops reacted when they saw what was going on?

To keep their job, they would have had to be stern about the situation and would get the inmate to a cell before anything else happened. In all honesty, I also feel like they may have let out a laugh here and there behind closed doors.

If you were one of the inmates watching this happen, how would you react?

I would be confused to be honest. I feel like people who try and escape from a place with cameras everywhere, there wouldn’t be any point in trying, but I would just watch from the side lines and let the cops handle it. Might even talk about it with the others.

  • I doubt they panicked too much because I don't know if you can get out of prison crawling through the ceiling. I think the police did the right thing when they found out she was trying to escape. Good thing she landed in the trash can and not just straight onto her head. It would be fun to watch, but I would not try it myself.

    • I also think it would be difficult to escape from the ceiling of a prison. I think the cops didn't want to make the whole thing a major situation and just deal with it calmly. I also agree with what you said about her how just landing on her head. I also would not try it myself.

  • I think that the cops were confused on what was going on at first. I agree on how in situations like this, they have to be stern and stay professional. I don't know how I would react. I would be confused on what she was doing at first, then watch it happen from the sidelines.

    • I agree with you. Being a police officer isn't an easy job, so having something like this happen, must of been difficult for them to stay professional. I also wouldn't know how to react at first, but then realizing what she is doing, I'd just watch to see what happens. next.

  • I think that they probably had to maintain a professional appearance to seem mature about the situation. However, I'm sure that they were holding in their laughs. Because nothing bad came out of this situation, they probably felt free to have a chuckle about it later on once the situation was under control. If I were watching this take place, I would definitely be laughing because I'm sure laughter is fairly rare in prisons, so I would appreciate the comedy of the situation and be glad that I wasn't the one getting in trouble.

    • I agree with you. To keep a job like this, it's important to stay professional no matter the situation, but it's also okay for them to have a few laughs to make it seem less major. I also agree with your second answer. I couldn't keep in any laughter when I would realize what was going on.

  • I believe that they didn't want any other inmates getting any ideas, to keep their jobs, and if you are in a holding room you're probably waiting for an officer to come in and question you. It would depend if I wanted to escape to I may have egged her on, but if I was wanting to get out I may have told someone about it.

    • I agree. Seeing this happen could give other inmates ideas about how to escape. I think that having to deal with this kind of situation would be hard on the cops. I also think that if someone wanted to escape with her, they may have told her to do something to get them both out, but if they didn't want anything on their record, they'd just sit back and watch.

  • I agree with you. They would definitely have to be stern and professional while handling this situation. They also might of laughed before they saw her. I would also be confused on why she was trying to escape, because there are cameras and she probably wouldn't of even made it out of the building.

    • I agree. Everything about that job takes a lot of bravery, but also they need to know how to not break character when they are dealing with this kind of situation. I also would be confused as to what was happening and I wouldn't really know how that person could of thought about doing something like that.
