Inmate Caught Falling Through Ceiling

On January 21, a 42 year old woman, Jessica Boomershine, fell through a jail ceiling while in a holding room. The incident was caught on the surveillance cameras around the room. While Boomershine was in the holding room, she decided to try and escape while no cops were looking. The inmate took one of the chairs near her, slid it under one of the tiles above her and tried to escape, while other inmates cheered her on. The surveillance cameras had shown Boomershine disappearing into the ceiling, when suddenly, the tiles broke from under her. The cops ran into the holding room and removed her from the ceiling, causing her to fall head first into a trash bin. According to county jail records, she was charged with escape and vandalism. Kyle Lennon, her attorney, had declined to comment on the incident to The Associated Press.

How do you think the cops reacted when they saw what was going on?

To keep their job, they would have had to be stern about the situation and would get the inmate to a cell before anything else happened. In all honesty, I also feel like they may have let out a laugh here and there behind closed doors.

If you were one of the inmates watching this happen, how would you react?

I would be confused to be honest. I feel like people who try and escape from a place with cameras everywhere, there wouldn’t be any point in trying, but I would just watch from the side lines and let the cops handle it. Might even talk about it with the others.

  • In all honesty, I agree with your choice personally. yeah if i were in their positions i would like to keep my job, but i know i would end up laughing about it later. As for the second question? I would honestly, think that this person is eather severly stupid or has a wish to stay longer.

    • I agree. It's best to be serious during the situation than to completely laugh about it while dealing with it. To keep the job, I'd have to be stern, but then behind closed doors, I'd have a little laugh about it. I agree with you on your second answer. I don't think anyone would try to do something like that unless they wanted to stay longer.

  • I think that the cops were shocked about an inmate falling through the ceiling but they definitly laughed after it happened. If i was one of the inmates and i saw somebody i knew fall out of the ceiling trying to escape i would be surprised and laugh about it alot.

    • I agree. I wouldn't know how to really handle the situation until I realized what was going on. I feel like cops always know how they are able to handle certain situations and how to act. I also agree with your second answer. If somebody I knew tried to attempt, I would be laughing a lot and wouldn't know how to process it.

  • I imagine that after they had her secured with handcuffs they probably couldn't stop laughing. Could you imagine just making your rounds around the jail cells as a prison guard, and then all the sudden an inmate comes crashing through the ceiling all covered in dust and broken ceiling pieces all over them. I think I would fall apart laughing.

    • I agree. I feel like after they got her to a different cell, they would look at each other and start laughing like no other. If I was making my rouns though the jail, and I saw that happen, I would have to take a double take, because I wouldn't know what if was at that moment and then realized what happened, it would be hard for me to hold everything in.

  • I think they probably were annoyed or amused. The ceiling probably doesn't lead outside, and the plan seems hardly foolproof. Some funny things don't seem funny until later.
After my initiaI flinch at the crashing noise, I would probably laugh at the sheer unexpectedness of the situation. It isn't everday that you see someone attempt to climb in a flimsy looking ceiling.

    • I agree with both of your answers. I think the jail would have a pretty secure way of making sure nobody can get in or out, but could be possible for them to find a way out. I also think I would have to get in on the situation and realize the problem. Then maybe let out a few laughs here and there.

  • I think they would have just ran up to her and pulled her out of the celling becasue thats there job but after hours I think they made fun of her for trying to exscape through a weak celling. I would probably laugh becasue she is falling out of rhe celling landing in a tash bin.

    • I agree. I think while on their shift they would have to somehow forget the situation, and later on at home, they would tell their family what happened at work. I also agree with your second answer. I feel like there's no way I couldn't not laugh at the situation.
