Inflatable Bubble Runner Rescued

Reza Baluchi fled Iran when he was young to escape persecution and came to the United States and became a citizen. He was found off the coast of Florida in an inflatable bubble that allowed him to run across water. His goal was to run from Florida to Bermuda to encourage world peace. Baluchi left for this voyage with nothing more than a few protein bars, some bottles of water, a GPS, and a satellite phone. He did not get far off the coast before he got caught in the Gulf Stream and he could not get out of it. Baluchi ended up about 70 miles east of St. Augustine. When the coast guard found him was exhausted and disoriented. Officials took Baluchi to a nearby hospital, no injuries were found. Baluchi said that he has already run across the US twice and around it's perimeter once.

Would you ever attempt something like this? Why or why not?

  • Well done!!

  • I think just running in a inflatable bubble would be really fun but running across the ocean for miles is not something I would like to get stuck in.

  • Yes, because it sounds like a pretty good time.

  • I wouldn't do it for that long of a distance. I would be something fun to try maybe on a lake, but not on the ocean or for that far of a distance.

  • No. It is foolish and you could die. He is lucky someone found him alive. The ocean is nothing to mess with. If I were to do it, I would have someone be there in like a boat or something to keep me on track and be there with me to make sure I don't die or help me if something goes wrong.

    • I agree, what he did was foolish, butI think I would try something like this but I would take a lot more safety precautions.

  • I would never attempt anything like this because I absolutely do not have the training and stamina for something like that. I honestly don't think anybody could.

    • Kristen I think with some serious time and effort you could do something like this.

  • No, because it would be too dangerous especially by yourself. I can see why you would want to do it because he wanted to feel acomplished. Like he did something great, but it was just to dangerous. What if the bubble would have popped?

  • No, I would not attempt this because there are many things that could go wrong and it just isn't a good idea.
