Indigenous People Day

On Columbus day some cities and schools are honoring and celebrating the people he encountered in his discovery of america and their descendants. Berkeley, California is believed to be the first city/town to recognize it was Indigenous People Day in 1992. Other cities like Minneapolis and Seattle both recognize it as Native American Day in stead of Columbus Day. The event does not replace Columbus Day where it is a state holiday. Some people don't mind people celebrating it as Native American Day, others do.

To me I don't care if they celebrate it as Indigenous People Day or Columbus Day.

  • Good topic and well done overall! You could have replied more frequently however.

  • I would celebrate it as Indigenous People Day or Columbus Day, to me, it honestly does not matter. I would not care if you thought of it as Columbus day or the other one.

  • I really to not mind what It would be,  we all have different meanings of the day you should be able to call it whatever you want!

  • I do not have much of an opinion to this subject. If i was of the native american culture, or an indigenous group i might have more of an opinion.

  • I don't really have an opinion towards one day or the other. I think both have very significant meanings and the world would be drastically different without both people.

  • I would celebrate it has a Columbus day just because that what my family calls it and I've grown up calling it that. I don't think it really matters though; either one works.

  • I don't think it matters, but I would say keeping it as Columbus Day is better, considering it has been named that for a long time and people will still call it Columbus Day.

  • It doesn't really matter which name you choose. I think the more original one is probably the one to go with.

  • I would because that was they day that Columbus founded the United States.

  • I don't really think it matters how it is celebrated.  They should just say Happy Indigenous people and Columbus Day and they can celebrate as they please.
