India Held a Pageant Specially For Transgender Queens.

Near Delhi, India, there were teenage girls striving to win the crown this past Sunday. Although it wouldn't be too difficult for a girl to ask their parents to be in a pageant, some of these girls had begged their parents to be in this pageant for a while. These teenage girls were once called boys. This is called being transgender, they felt like their sex (Male or Female) didn't match what they genuinely felt in the inside of themselves.

In 2014, India made the transgender community legally the right to be identified as a third gender.

Miss Transqueen India's mother, Reena Rai, was inspired to create this pageant after she listened to many Hijras. Hijras are MTF (Male to Female) transgender citizens of India explaining about their issues of being transgender. Rai quit her job at the restaurant and started with the equivalence of 156.00 USD to create this pageant.

1. Why do you think India makes the transgender community known legally as a third gender rather than their preferred gender?

2. Do you think the pageant could have been not fair due to the fact that Miss Transqueen's mother was the one who had created it?

I think since India has a lot of religion and culture that is why they don't want to tell the transgender citizens that they can be called as their preferred pronouns and name. There might be religion in the government part as well Although, I do not know much about the middle east. I also think that it could have been a possibility that her mother could have 'made' her win the pageant.

  • Great topic choice! Huge respect for choosing this topic! Next time, be sure to comment on three different days.

  • I think that everyone calls them transgender because these people are different than what the world expects. Also, you don't want to accidentally call them the wrong gender. I think everyone was so inspired by the braveness of this person that they thought she deserved to be queen. I don't think the mom had anything to do with it.

    • Calling people the wrong gender is part of being transgender. Until one day you look more enough like your gender, you will be called by your pronouns that belong towards your sex. I do agree that everyone was inspired by the braveness of her. Although, I still think something was going on between her mom and herself.

  • I think they made a transgender third party to avoid misnaming the people that are transgender(instead of awkwardly calling a male and girl and vice versa.) It also might have something to do with the Hindu religion, and keeping transgender people in a separate category to avoid religious reasons. I think making a third party is kind of a good idea that way they can keep genders in separate categories. I think there might be some bias thing going on, since the mother allowed her daughter to win the pageant she created...

    • Although I do agree with you on the mother and daughter bias, I don't agree with you on keeping the transgender community known as transgender citizens.  I feel like that would create more of a problem than just calling them whatever the prefer.

  • 1. They may trying to stop people who hate transgender to agree to have transgender

    2. No they had to had people be charge of them

    • I understand where you're coming from. Maybe one day they can all be accepted as normal people in this world. I still think there was something going on between the mother and the daughter to win.

  • I think it's because India is kind of a religious country, they don't want to integrate the preferred pronouns of Trans people, so they made it into a 3rd gender. Yes, the pageant could have been biased because the mother created this pageant, and she thought that since its her child, she deserves to win.

    • I agree with you. It is kind of suspecting that the daughter of the creator won.
