Ice Storm

Thousands of flights have been canceled and roads have been deadly as an ice storm has moved across the East Coast of the U.S. This rare weather is covering virtually the whole United States. Temperatures have dropped below freezing in parts of California and Nevada, including Las Vegas. Wind chills are 40 below zero in the Midwest. It was warmer in Anchorage, Alaska, on Monday morning than it was in St. Louis and Denver. Across the country, most temperatures are between 10 and 20 degrees below average. Some places are receiving record snowfall too. Philadelphia broke its daily record Sunday, with more than 8 inches. There was also a NFL game going on at the time when it was snowing, so I'll put a picture of that below. In Washington, federal agencies opened two hours late Monday due to the weather. There were also many power outages in cities including 20,000 people without power in the Dallas area. In Arizona, a Saturday night snowstorm stranded 300 vehicles along an interstate. Even though the ice is a problem and causing wrecks one person from an area where there was a lot of ice said "For me, the highlight is how beautiful everything looks." I'll include a picture of this as well.

What do you guys think about a storm like this happening many days before the official start of Winter?

  • the snow burnt me...

  • I think this was actually a bit late, it usually happens earlier in the year. I remember one year it was snowing like this in October. Winter is unpredictable, but the Farmer's Almanac is usually pretty accurate.

  • That is a lot of snow and ice. I was watching football and saw the down poor of snow. I wish we could have gotten it in iowa.

  • I seen the game on the t.v and yeah it was snowing like crazy. I think its kind of scary that California and getting so much snow and their temperatures are dropping because that just shows how bad we have messed up or ozone layer. I think things are really messed up and its not a good sign that certain places like California and Nevada are getting that much snow and their temperatures are so low.

  • Great job!!

  • This is crazy, I'm glad we didn't get that much snow, I mean I want snow but I don't want it to get that cold. Also it is pretty.

  • I think that this is crazy that it is getting that cold all across the country. I can't even imagine how many car crashes have been caused because of this. And yes, I watched the Eagles Lions games and thought it was pretty awesome how much snow there was.

  • I think that the Earth is just going through a climate change. Remember when it snowed in May last year? I saw that football game and it looked like it was fun to run around in all that snow, but I think those guys are crazy for not wearing long sleeves.

  • Oh, no! Nature is doing something that doesn't happen everyday! This is just a natural occurrence and people really need to stop complaining. It just seems a lot worse than last year because there was next to no snow. As for the game, they never cancel for snow unless there is other worse inclimate weather.
