There is constant debate over who will control the future of cars. The debate is usually Electric vs Gas but there is a new competetor in the debate, hydrogen powered cars!! Formally called Fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) these cars are powered combining hydrogen stored in a tank with oxygen from the air to produce electricity, with water vapor as the by-product.
Electric vehicles are much more energy efficient. Electric motors convert virtually all of their fuel energy into usable power. But there is a problem, the common misconception is that since the car is electric its helping the environment. This would be true, however the source of the energy used to power the cars are fossil fuels such as oil, gas, and other natural gases. So it makes you wonder how much electric cars actually help the environment.
Hydrogen cars are also are much more efficient, not only more than gas powered cars but better for the environment as well. These hydrogen powered cars are not getting there power from any kind of natural gases. The power comes from the actual hydrogen itself which we learned earlier is made by combining hydrogen stored in a tank with oxygen from the air to produce electricity, with water vapor as the by-product. So the only by product of producing this is water vapor which can be used for things like washing your car and this vapor harms the environment in no way.
In my opinion hydrogen powered cars could be the future but I did not factor in cost of hydrogen and if we are able to produce engines able to run on it in bulk at reasonable cost for a consumer. So with all that said I think it could be the new thing but more work and research needs to be done first
Do you think ELECTRIC or HYDROGEN cars are the future of the automotive world??
Do you think companies producing hydrogen cars would be real competition with companies such as Tesla, BMW, and Volkswagen and other companies releasing high quality consistant electric cars??

Good topic choice and summary Ian! The issue is you didn't reply to any student comments which is worth 30 points.
I think that electric cars seem to be booming and becoming more popular. This will make it hard for hydrogen cars to compete with electric cars. I think the overall effiency of hydrogen cars seems to be more beneficial from your information. In my opinion, it all comes down to the price per gallon and how long it lasts because people will take whatever low cost they can get.
I would personaly don't know what I would choose because we don't know everything about hydrogen vehicles yet and don't know alot about electric either ecept that they are both better fot the enviorment. I think we need to know more befor we know which one is better for our enviorment. Yes I think they are the future both of them and I think that they will find better safer ways to go about having a gas powered car to.
I think electric cars are still going to be the future instead of hydrogen because there is less hydrogen cars and electric cars kind of have a head start over hydrogen cars since we don't know much about them yet and we don't know if they are reliable.
I think the hydrgen cars are better than electric because they are better for the environment, like you mentioned. But I think electric cars have more of a future because they already have popularity. But in the future there will probably be more of electric and hydrogen cars being used.
I think that both of these types of cars have their place in the automotive world. I also think that hydrogen cars could be a great option if they were polularized and more available to the public. I also think that their needs to be a lot of work done to make the hydrogen cars better.
I personally feel like hydrogen might be better than electric just because I that it could be , like you said, better for the enviornment. Although, I don't know how the refilling of hydrogen cars are I think if they started putting them in around the U.S. many people would start to buy them. I think Hydrogen companies could be competition for electric companies if people really become away of them.
I personally think that electric cars are better than hydrogen cars. We need to drink that water, and at some point the world is gonna run out of water at some point. So we should keep that water for drinking instead of driving. But if anything, they're both better than gas cars because it causes lots of pollution.
I think hydrogen cars could be the future. It is going to take a lot to beat out electric cars because they are so popular and everyone thinks they are helping the environment so much.
I think that as of now, electric cars will be the future because they are already gaining a lot of press and popularity. However, I think that gas/diesel cars will be ahead of electric for awhile because so many people already have them and are continuing to buy them.
