For those who don't know what "Price Gouging" is, it means that a seller spikes the prices of goods or services. It is considered unethical and very unfair. For the people fleeing Florida and getting to safety because of Hurricane Matthew are having troubles paying to get to safety. Several hotels and gas stations have jacked up the prices. As people are buying gas they are paying as much as $8 per gallon! Hotel rooms are jumping as much as $150 more then the rooms normally cost. Cases of water are $30 other necessities are very pricey for individuals trying to get to safety. State attorney's are looking into the prices. All these outrage pricing is illegal because you can not raise prices that high in a state of emergency. Several investigators are out checking into these prices.
Questions:
What are your thoughts on these Price Gouging's?
Do you think businesses have the right to jack prices?
My Answers
I think that is is ridiculous and very sad that people would do this. There are people who are already desperate and can't afford a hotel's normal rates let alone being 3x their normal amount. I don't think businesses have the right to do this and I think they should be fined for their actions!

Well done Nicole!
This is completely unfair and doesn't need to happen in times of emergency. They should be able to set prices when people don't need to flee to stay alive.
I think that raising prices on people who are trying to get to safety for their family, it is outrageous. There are people that are already struggling to buy the basic necessities and then moving in such a hurry, leaving a lot of what they own behind, is already stressful enough. Tack on the extra prices and people won't know what to do. Businesses should not have the right because if the situation was reversed, they would cause quite a stir themselves.
I feel that businesses will still be making money if they drop it down because of the people frequently stopping by to do it.
I think it is very mean of them, and i feel like they are just doing it because they know people NEED those things. I don't think the businesses have the right to do that because they are in a state emergency
I would think that the the business owners would feel bad.
Its stupid and shouldn't even be legal. Were supposed to help each other not make each other suffer even more just for a few extra bucks. Yes they do its there business so they can make there prices higher if they want to, is it right to do that no
I agree that they should be helping people and not making them miserable.
It's terrible that sellers are raising their prices when everyone is just trying to get by. Hurricane Matthew is a very real threat and for retailers to take advantage of it is wrong. I don't think they have the right to "Price Gouge."
It is defiantly not right for them to do this. I hope it gets taken care of.
