Human Ashes Stop a Met Show

Saturday's performance at the Met in New York City was cut short after a suspicious suspect threw a white, powdery substance into the orchestra pit. The police have been looking into this peculiar crime. Some witnesses say that the suspect, whose name is not yet released, told them that they flew to all the way to NYC to throw the ashes in the pit. All of the people who attended and evacuated the performance are being refunded in full. The general manger, Peter Gelb, of The Met commented about the incident, "We appreciate opera lovers coming to the Met; we hope that they will not bring their ashes with them." Next time you are thinking about going to a show please don't bring the ashes.

Questions

1. How would you react in this situation?

2. Why do you think that he flew all that way to NYC to throw the ashes?

My Thoughts-

I think that I'd be a little startled, but would calmly leave the building as instructed. I think that this man's friend or mentor or whoever these ashes belong to wanted to be in there favorite place and his friend just wanted to help him out with his dying wish.

  • Excellent job Morgan!

  • I would be a little freaked out if someone started throwing white powder around. I think the ashes are someone that he loved and that person loved the orchestra and so it's his way of honoring them.

    • Me too! I think it's a nice thought but maybe outside the building or throw them after the show was done.
  • It would be a little concerning, but I wouldn't think much of it. Most likely the persons ashes had been requested to be spread there or maybe it has some special significance or maybe it was just he was lazy and decided to do it just to where he was.

    • Yeah, it may be a bit weird to think about but it should bother you to know that!
  • I would come off as a little confused because why out of all places would you fly there to do that. I think he flew there to do it because it is such an amazing place and it could've been something that the deceased person wanted to do all their life but never got to.

    • I agree! I don't quite know why you would have someone fly out there just to throw the ashes but it was a nice gesture.
  • I am  a little confused and don't really understand but I would probably think what a lunatic why are you throwing ashes let alone fly here.

  • I think it's kind of funny. "I mean just fly to New York City to throw my ashes in the opera, please!" Anyways I think he probably threw it because the person, the ashes once belonged to, loved the opera and it was his last wish to settle in his favorite place on earth. I get that wish and I can relate, but it is maybe a little disgusting, and if I had been there, I would probably have laughed after I would have been grossed out.

    • I completely agree! I would also want to be in my favorite place for forever, but maybe a better alternative would have been outside of the building.
