How Heroin is Scarring the Next Generation.

In Huntington, West Virginia, one nurse,Sara Murray, is responsible for two dozen babies in the neonatal therapeutic unit at Cabell Huntington Hospital.  These babies shake and vomit. These symptoms can last for hours, days or months. These babies are the youngest victims of a raging epidemic. They are know as heroin babies, born addicted. One in ten babies born at the hospital has withdrawals from some type of drug. They are addicted to heroin, opiates, cocaine, alcohol or a combination of many. Nearly everyone in Huntington is a victim of this epidemic.

What do you think the U.S. government could do to help reduce this epidemic?

How do you think we could end this epidemic and save babies from being born addicted?

  • They need to constantly check on the mother to see if she is using any type of drugs. It is ultimately up to the mother what she puts in her body so we cant stop it be we can try to push them in the right direction.

  • Need stricter laws against drugs especially for pregnant women because they are responsible for their babies lives and their own. It is the mothers choice what goes into them and what goes into the baby. If they won't care enough about it to fix it then there really isn't much we can do about it.

  • They could not let the babies be giving back to the parents if that is the way they treat their body then they will treat their kid that way to. Well we could mabye get them in and get them off the drug before they have their baby

  • They should check up on the mother and make sure she isn't doing any drugs. They have to get it out of the baby's blood or give them medication to get rid of the addiction.

  • I think that the mother should get tested before or at the beginning of the pregnancy and put a stop to drug use. Family members should be helping the people that are addicted and get them help as soon as possible.

  • I think that they should have a check up on the mom and make sure she doesn't do any drugs while she is pregnant and if she does they need to find a way to stop them. Also make sure that there is a way to get it out of there system and makes sure they aren't addicted to it. I think we should! because this world is going down and its just going to go to a bad place we should stop it now.

  • I think that the mothers should at least get tested either during or at the beginning of the pregnancy. To try and stop this I think that you could check up on the mother every month and make sure that she is doing well.

  • I think that they should have a test required for a mother to take to find out if the baby is addicted or not.

  • I think the mother should get tested right when she goes in for a check up at the beginning of the pregnancy. This is a dangerous issue, and stoping the mom from doing terrible things at the beginning of her pregnancy can make a big difference.

  • Parents should be clean before having a child. This is horrible and very unfair for the child. They are suffering. Government should have more strict laws and restrictions about the drugs.
