How Fast Can a Human Run

What is the fastest a human can run is a queston that has been out there for along time. A lot of people want to know. The fastest anyone has every ran was Usain bolt in 2009, hitting 27.5 miles per hour. A biomechanics reascercher was trying to figure out why it will be so hard to beat that speed, and he said, "that the reason our running speed is limited is because when people are sprinting they are in air for most of there stride." Which is why you skate faster than you run because you're not in the air. Somone like Usain bolt only has is on the ground for about 42 percent of is stride and somthing like a cheata is two thirds its stride time.

Do you think someone will be able to bet Usain blolts top speed?

Yes because pepole will figur out how to run to reduse air time

Why do you think being in the air between strides makes us slower?

Becsue it is drag and it is slowing you down

  • I do think that someone can beat Usain Bolts time. Tech is always improving and so is technique. Staying as low and aerodynamic to the ground as possible will reduce air resistace but you also have to inclued the terminal speed of something because of the surface area. Being in the air for longer in your stride makes you slower because the only time you are not pushing to go forward is when you are in the air.

  • I think that the use of prosthetics could set a new precedent of what is possible for speed.

  • Running this fast, would be very hard. No matter if they can figure out how to reduce air time, it would still be difficult to get to this speed. This has been held for a long time, yet still no one has figured it out. People are slower on two feet than animals are on four feet. Drag and gravity will be acting on us which will make it harder to run that fast.

  • No. I believe that people can figure it out, I just don't believe that someone will be able to. It has also been held for many years and no one has seemed to beat him Because we are bigger people which brings drag on us and it is slowing us down.

    • I disagree, if people work hard enough and work on aerodynamics I believe someone could beat him in a race. I belive the record will not stand forever. People also set their goals to beat records. I think they will work on what he did wrong and beat him.

  • no because the record has been held by him for years. he cn run fast yes but the air can slow it down. half of the time your juming off your feet and in the air, they are trying an testing new things for that reason. the only reason why it slows you down s because when your running theres air resictence and air drag that all affects the running park and plus like you said your in the air 42 percent of the time.

    • That is true but i think that pepole will some how figure it out with all our tecnoligy telling pepole how to get more speed. And id do think that the big reason why it is slowing pepole is the air resistance so once they figure out how to reduce the air drag

  • I think somone will probably beat his time since many people couldn't imagine running that fast, yet he was able to, so who knows how fast people will be able to run. Being in the air slows you down because of air resistance, but when you're on the ground your pushing yourself forward.

    • I agree because someone evenually will beet the speed becasue we are just getting more tecnoligy and more pepole who whant to break that record. And yes the more time you are going to be on the ground the faster you will be so if they train to beet that air than yes they will beet it

  • I do think that someone will be able to beat Usain Bolt's speed because the technology gets better all the time so athletes can see where they are slow and improve on that. I think that being in the air slows us down because we are not pushing off as much so we are not going as fast.
