Thanksgiving is a holiday where most people sit down with their family and have a good time. They celebrate a good harvest when they eat all of the good food. Although you may know what Thanksgiving is, do you know how it came to be? Do you know who the first people were on American soil? The first disease in the U.S. was smallpox. Smallpox led to the settlers and Natives getting along together. Here is how it came to the U.S. Years before the Mayflower landed in the U.S., smallpox came to America brought over by Europeans. The smallpox killed most of the indigenous population (An event the Pilgrims called “an act of god”). The disease of smallpox made the remaining Natives to consider working with the settlers. The settlers would teach the Natives many surviving skills needed to live. The Pilgrims stole many food items and other supplies so they could live because they were struggling on their own.
The next event that led to the first Thanksgiving was the Natives and the settlers not getting along. The Native Americans saw the settlers as invaders of their land and didn’t want the settlers to be on the same land as them. The settlers continually broke treaties and took land from the Native Americans, so the Native Americans did not like the settlers for this reason. The settlers also took many items from the Native Americans including food. The next event that led to the first Thanksgiving was the hardship that the settlers were faced with. During the first 5 months the settlers came to America, half of them died. The settlers were unprepared, untrained, and did not know how to hunt or farm in America. The settlers chose a difficult location for their first settlement. By the time that the first Thanksgiving arrived, the settlers that were still alive were grateful to be alive.
The last event that led to the first Thanksgiving was the agreements by both of the settlers and the Natives. The settlers and Natives both agreed to not attack each other. Also, if there was war between the settlers and another tribe the Natives would come help, and vis vera. Another agreement that they had was that the Natives would help the settlers hunt and farm as long as the settlers would help the Natives stay healthy. There were also many other agreements that they had together, but there are some of the main ones. Thanksgiving was not an official holiday until the 1860’s, but the Native Americans and the Pilgrims were the first ones to celebrate Thanksgiving. All in all, Thanksgiving is a holiday in the U.S. and came to be because of the agreements between the Native Americans and the Pilgrims.
This is a picutre of what the first Thanksgiving between the Native Americans and the settlers looked like.

What do you do for Thanksgiving?
How is your Thanksgiving similar to the Native Americans and the Pilgrams Thanksgiving?

Great topic and choice and well done Brayton!
For Thanksgiving my family takes turns for whose house it gets to be hosted at. Some of my favorite thanksgiving foods are turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, and of course pie. Our thanksgiving is sort of like the very first becasue we do all get together but it dosent really hold that same original meaning.
For my Thanksgiving my family and I go to my aunts house and all my family is there. My cousins and I usually go outside if it is nice out and play football and basketbal. Then we go inside and we eat around the table witch is similar to the first Thanksgiving because that is what they also did.
For thanksgiving my family usually comes to me house and we eat thanksgiving day food. Some of my favorite thanksgiving food is turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, and gravy. It is similar to the origanal thanksgiving because we all eat together.
You Thanksgiving sounds fun. For my Thanksgiving I usually go over to both of my aunts house and we eat, play games, and have fun. I also like turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Mine is also similar to the origanal Thanksgiving because we all gather around the table.
Usually my family and I go to my grandma and grandpa's house in Des Moines and spend the weekend there with my aunts, uncles and cousins, or we go spend Thanksgiving day at my great aunt and uncle's house with my grandma, great-grandma and other extended family. However, with covid this year, neither of those traditions happened, but it's for the safety of everyone. Our Thanksgiving is similar to the original one because of our Thanksgiving feast we all eat together.
I usually go to my aunts house for Thanksgiving, but this year, like many familys, my family and I had to stay home and it was actually very fun. I also think that my Thanksgiving is similar to the Native American and Pilgrams because we all like to socilize and eat food.
To celebrate thanksgiving, my family usually all gets together and sings songs, watches a movie, and eats turkey. It is similiar to the first thanksgiving, because the focus is on the gifts that the Lord has given to us. We spend the time appreciating family, prosperity, and love. It is my favorite holiday by far because of this reason and more.
That is cool to hear whta your family does for Thanksgiving. I also agree with you that you Thanksgiving and my Thanksgiving is simial to the first one. I also agree that it is a time to sit down around the table and thank the lord for what he has given us. Thanksgiving is a fun holiday.
I went to my grandparents house and we stayed there for a while, watched football games on tv and the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade. We didn't have any thanksgiving food, we had pasta instead. Later we went to the bowling ally and bowled and got pizza for dinner. It was nothing like their thanksgiving.
