The fourth week of November every year is when we celebrate Thanksgiving. This holiday is to honor the settlers an native americans that came to together for a feast, and to give thanks for everything we have in life.
It all started in 1620, the Mayflower (carrying 101 people) was traveling through the atlantic ocean for 66 days. These people on the ship were a group of English Protestants called Puritans(or pilgrims) they wanted to leave the Church of England. They were supposed to settle where New York City is today, but wind weather caused them settle in Cape Cod, Masseuchusets. As the puritans prepared for winter they collected anything they could find. One day Squanto( the leader of the abankaki, and tisquantum people) visited the Puriatans. He knew English and had met other settlers before. Squanto helped them grow corn, and use fish to fertilize their fields. After several meetings the native people and the settlers agreed that they join together to protect each other from other tribes.
In that fall they helped each other hunt for a harvest celebration. The English, an native men, women and children all ate together. They had deer, corn, shellfish, and roasted meat. This very different from our meal today. They also sang, danced, and played ball games. Even though prayers and thanks were most likely done at the 1621 harvest, the first religious one happened in 1623. The peace between the Native americans and the English only lasted for a generation. Since 1970, many native people gather at the statue of Massasoit in Massachusetts each Thanksgiving to remember their ancestors and the power of the Wampanoag.
The thanksgiving we know today started in the 19th century. In 1846 Sarah Hale who is a editor of a magazine called Godey’s Lady’s Book, capained for a annual Thankgiving Holiday. It was not until 1863 when Abraham Lincoln declared two national Thanksgivings. One in August to honor the battle of gettyburg in the civil war. The other was in November and it was to give thanks. The second on is the one we celebrate today.
Thankgiving eventually started to become the thanksgiving we know today with traditions like turkey, giving thanks, and traveling to meet our families. Thankgiving is a holiday that we all cherish, and come together as a family in. I go to New York every year to have Thankgiving with my dad's side of my family. Thankgiving was some English and Native America people having a harvest dinner, and know it is a holiday that we all share.

Good topic choice and well done Erik!
I like the holiday Thanksgiving a lot. I think that it's a great time for everyone to hang out with their families, and eat lots of good food. I think that everyone should take the chance to celebrate the holiday and to take the chance to be with their family.
I really enjoy Thanksgiving and it is very celabrated in my family with two large family dinners on both sides of the family. I think it is very cool how the first thanksgiving was set up and how the English and the Native Americans all ate and celabrated together.
Thanksgiving is very intresting, but it is probably one of the least celebrated holidays. It's special to me because the time I get to spend with some of my family who lives farther away is really valuable.
Thanksgiving is special to me because it used to be when all my family got together for thanksgiving and I got to see my cousens. Now we just go over and see my grandparents for thanksgiving and eat food.
I like Thanksgiving a lot. I think that it is a great holiday because of many reasons. The first would be that I love food a lot, and Thanksgiving is all about food. I love all the different dishes that come with this holiday. Another would be that I get to see a lot of my family that I don't see a lot during the year. I have always enjoyed learning about the history of Thankgiving and I find this topic very interesting.
I agree Thankgiving is great because of the food, and the family. Thanksgiving is one of the only times of the year where I see some of my family. That makes it more of a great day.
I think that the history of Thanksgiving is very important because it resembles the meaning of staying together and being grateful for what we have. Thanksgiving is special to me because It reminds me of being with my family and always being thankful that I have a roof to sleep in, food to eat, clothes to wear, and another year of health for my family and loved ones.
I agree because I think that Thankgiving is being grateful for what we have. It is also a time for family and food.
I think it is interesting how the first Thanksgiving was set up. I think it is cool how the English and the native americans all ate together and celebrated as one. On Thanksgiving, we usually go to my aunts house and all my family travels there to eat.
