So I helped move my daughter, Lexie, back to Buena Vista University on August 18 after much deliberation on her part on whether to go back or take classes from home online. She changed her mind at least five different times including on the day we were moving her in. Of course, going back to college means seeing and interacting with people from all over the state, country and world. It means scenes like this:
Iowa State actually tested all the students when they moved in and here were the results:
Not too bad, but other colleges like North Carolina, Notre Dame and Michigan State sent their students home after virus outbreaks amongst students within days or weeks of getting there. Hundreds of other colleges have opted to go online only for all students. I can of course, respect colleges that go completely online for at least this semester as colleges are quite different from high schools as they have students that come from all over the country and world. My issue is this-why are colleges having students come back to campus and then only offering one or two classes in person and the rest are online????!!!! What is the point of having students come back at all then? If you are that concerned, keep them home! Kids want to go back to college. College is fun. In person classes are generally better and harder to put off. So why put there safety in jeapordy if they aren't going to go full in-person. It's ridiculous and in my opinon, it's all about the $$$$$$$, which is sad.
So what are your thoughts about this? Do you think colleges should be all online, all in person or a combination? If you were a college student, what would you do and why?

I personaly think that college classes should not be online. I believe that it is easier to study and take notes in class. I think they should seperate classes half and half one day and then the next group the other day. If I were in college I would be very upset about the cost of going to college and not going to be able to go to class, that would upset myself and my bank account. I would still take the online classes because I need the learning to graduate. A good idea for colleges would be to lower the price of enrollment, books, dorm room, etc.
I believe that colleges should try and do all in person classes. I would like to be at the college and go to in person classes because I learn better that way. If colleges end up having some online classes and some in person classes they should make a reasonable price of living on campus. It isn't fair that people who only go to one in person class have to pay full room and board. If all classes were in person then I would understand having to pay the full price, but the students who are doing all online except one class should pay 50 percent of room and board or less.
If I were a collage student I would like to have all of the classes online but have that collage do something like harlan is doing. Because I feel like it's really hard to learn online but thats just me. Some people think different but if a student is only put in 1 or 2 in person classes then they should go all online.
If the college is only going to have only one in person class then they should just go online all of the time. I would wait a year to go to college because it would be pointless to pay to only go to one class. It is harder to learn online than in person because you really can't ask questions.
Personally I think classes should be all online for collage. Yes, the colleges need money, however people shouldn't be wasting their money to (for example) go to one class a day and have the rest online. In that case paying for a dorm room seems kinda crazy to me. eventually, yes we should go 50/50 eventually then when the time comes 100%. As of now, 100% seems like the safest most affordable option.
I think that colleges should be online and in person. I definitely think that it is important for there to be in person learning especially for certain classes. I also understand that not all classes/classrooms are big enough to social distance and be able to go to class safely. If I were a college student, I would probably go back to campus to take my classes. I would do this just in case that one class that I was able to take required labs or hands on activities.
I think it should be a combination because then they can choose whether they want to go to class in person or not. I think they should have a choice in whether it's over zoom or not cause some people might be scared to go outside let alone go outside and interact with people. Some people are probably going outside saying the virus isn't going to stop me. I personally would go to college just because I wouldn't want to be trapped inside all-day.
I think it should be a combination, to much time away from your teacher is never a good thing, because some people just can't learn that way and need a teachers personal help. But also being online is good because it takes the stress off of having to be there on time and with all of your things. It also depends on hoe many student text positive for covid. If they're are not many cases in school is a good idea, but if they are high online is the best option.
Personally I learn better in person, however I think that the colleges that are going online are doing the right thing to help stop the spread of the virus. Also I would think that the colleges that do go online should reduce the cost of tuition for the simple fact that there aren't any in-person classes or anyone staying in dorms.
I think that having a combination would be better because some people are better with hands on learning. Online schooling may be harder for some people who may not understand things as well unless they are being tought in person. It would also be good for those who learn better on the computer. The people who learn better online would benifit with this because that is what they are more comfortable with. I also think they would be able to control the spread of covid better without affecting students grades as much.
