Hot Take: Crime Would Get Worse Under Biden If Elected

Mike Pence claims America will not be safe if Joe Biden is elected. I am not sure about this, but I believe I agree with it simply because a majority of cities that are experiencing violence are run by democrats.joe-biden-kamala-harris-1.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=618&h=410&crop=1&profile=RESIZE_400x The leaders in these cities are struggling to control their own cities, and I am afraid that if Joe Biden is elected the whole countries murder rates would go up significately.

What do you think about this upcoming election? I think I could have a huge impact on the well being of our country.

Do you think crime would get better or worse if Joe Biden were to be elected? I think it would get worse, comparing this to other democrat run cities and counties.https://www.bbc.com/news/election-us-2020-53928422

  • Great topic choice and good job replying to people Mason! Your summary is brief overall as that part of the project is worth 70 points.

  • I believe things would get worse because the democratic party has chaged lots in the past ten years.  The democrats were better than republicans at one point.  Now all they want to do is take our firearms which we have the wright to have.   Our country would pretty much be considered communist.

  • I think this upcoming election is a big one. I don't if Joe Biden wins or country will go downhill. I actually do think crime will get worse if Biden is elected because he wants to take guns away from us law-abiding citizens. Studies have shown that Americans use their firearms in self-defense 500,000 - 3 million times a year. I think this alone will change the crime rate. This is just disarming the law-abiding citizens because criminals do not care about the laws.

  • Crime in general has a lot more factors coming into play than the party that they are run by. Although it is an understatement that cities with higher crime rates are run by the democratic party that is not all that should be considered. Crime bases off in a more physiological way than just simply by the fact of who they are run by. Poverty, abuse of illegal or legal substances, mental problems, parental neglect, etc. Some of those are almost impossible to prevent unless a drastic change happens. A lot of things play a role on why crime happens. For that reason I don't personally think that it has a lot to do with the party that the city or state is run by.

    • I somewhat agree with this statement, but not completely. I like how you explained your ideas also. I believe things like poverty could also be related to democratic leadership. Missippi has the lowest homeless rate per capita with a rate of 4 per 10,000. Missippi is almost always a red state. While D.C, New York, Hawaii, California, and Oregon. Are the highest in that order. These are all democratic run states and went blue in 2016. For comparison D.C rate of homelessness is 94 per 10,000.

    • I like how you brought up that there are many factors to the crime rates, rather than just the political party of the person who is in charge. I think we also have to take a look at the population of these cities compared to others with less crime. Overall, saying the democratic party is the reason for higher crime rates is extremely broad and doesn't consider many other factors that affect crime.

  • I couldn’t find any research that sides with the claim that democrats are the reason for higher crime. However, a lot of the research I did found that the pandemic could be having a very large effect on the recent spike in crime, as social distancing and stay-at-home restrictions are being lessened. The recent murder and homicide rates could also be related to domestic violence due to the pandemic and stay at home orders as well. I don't think it's fair to simply claim the higher crime rates are because of democrats, because you can say you're a democrat and have widely differing views than another person who says they're a democrat. It comes down to individual leadership and not democrats as a whole widescale political party. There are many other factors of crime than just leadership, too, such as educational funding, community funding, wealth demographic, mental health resoruces, etc.  Also, just because the individual cities have higher crime rates, doesn't mean this would be affected by Joe Biden becoming president. Trump is still the president, yet the crime rates are rising, so with the logic and reasoning you're presesnting this would be Trump's fault (not saying it is). I don't like either candidate, but simply claiming Joe Biden would be the cause of higher crime rates because he is a democrat can't be factually backed up.

    • I also couldn't find any research suggest they are the reason. Since they 18 of 20 of the most violent cities are run by democrats. I assume either two things. Democratic policies drive crime up the wall or people who commit crime or don't mind it like to vote democrat.

  • Crime would be worse if Biden was elected. CIties will end up getting burned down more then they already are because of the democrats. To be honest, what I've learned about Biden and his VP is that America  would be better off without him because right now because Biden can't form a sentence correctly because of his alzheimers.

    • Both canditates have signs of demntia and are not good choices. If you've watched any interviews with Trump, most of his setences are incoherent, so for that arguement, it can go both ways. Saying crime would be worse under Biden can't be factually backed up and most research claims that citing democrats as the cause for rising crime is a stretch and most likely not true.
