A homeless man becoming a hero in his town? Glen James was at the Boston strip mall when he became the hero of his hometown. He had noticed an abandoned backpack. The backpack held a passport and more that $40,000 in cash. Also, some travelers checks. Most homeless people would keep the money, knowing they need it for financial situations, but not Glen James! Glen James exact words were when he found the backpack were "I noticed a lot of hundred-dollar bills, and said ‘Oh my goodness, this has to get back to its rightful owner.’” He turned the bag to the Boston police which was rewarded with a plaque and a civil ceremony. In Midlothian, Virginia, Ethan Whittington read this story online. He told himself this man deserves something more than a plaque. He started an online story campaign to help James. He raised $148,000 from people all around the world. This money will help James a ton! There is a catch to this though, a trust has been created to help with tax issues. Also, this money that James got is specifically not to be used on drugs and alcohol.
-What are your thoughts on this?
-Do you think Glen James deserved the money?

Interesting topic and well done!
If someone with no money has that much good in his heart to turn $40,000 in to the police, he deserves an award. Most people who do have money would still take that; I honestly couldn't say that I wouldn't take it in that situation. And honestly, shouldn't the catch be implied? Seems like an obvious thing to have to say.
Your right! Most people would just take it and leave! Not going to lie so would I. $40,000! Who wouldn't take it? Glen James. Homeless or not. I look up to Glen James
I think this is a very good story! It is nice to see someone do a very good deed like that, it warms the heart and reminds us that there are still good people out there. To have the right moral compass and turn in the money to police is awesome. What Ethan did for Glen is so nice. This story proves that if you do something good, you will get good out of it. I hope Glen can get a home near his sister, that would be a real nice happy ending to this story. Hopefully everyone can learn from this story, especially the little kids so they can grow up and be good people.
Yes, some people never tell the truth. And a lot of people were shocked he turned it in because he was homeless. Glen proved to him and all the other homeless people out there that not all homeless people aren't honest.
That was nice of him to give the money back and not keep it I am not for sure why he is homeless so I don't know if he deserves all that money because he probably doesn't have a job and works so I don't think it is 100% fair that he just gets free money but It was nice of him to turn in the money
I think that Glen does deserve this money because I think that what he did was the right thing. Most homeless people wouldn't think twice about keeping this money. Even some people who aren't homeless probably would have taken this money. I think it shows that he's a good person, deep down. It also shows us not to be so judgmental. I think it's good that they're making sure he doesn't spend the money on drugs and or alcohol though too.
Not a lot of people, homeless or not, would have given the backpack back.
I don't really think he should be paid for doing something as simple as returning the money. I think they just felt sorry for him, since he was homeless, and felt like they should raise money for his deed. A waste of money, in my opinion.
This story shows that doing the right thing can go a long way. I think Glen completely deserved the money and I think I also think it was a really smart idea how they are helping him manage his money so it doesn't get used for the wrong things.
What he did was great and he deserved every bit of that money, It was very smart to not allow him to spend the money on drugs and alcohol because it will probably save him more money.
