They definitely shouldn't have expelled her. That teacher should not have been looking through her personal property, that's a violation of privacy. She didn't make any threats. She was just expressing in her opinion why the shooting happened. Why weren't they concerned about her previous poems? I think the teacher should be in trouble for violating the girl's privacy. And what about freedom of speech? That was just her opinion. They are treating it like she said "I'm gonna shoot up the school" and handed it in herself. I think the school is overreacting.
Courtni wasn't supporting Adam Lanza and his actions, she just understood his physciotic mind, unlike the rest of us who are to naivve. Although, I do agree with the suspension, but not because I'm a bad guy, but because the school is worried for the safety of the innocent students of their school district. Dig deep now. Who is your bestest of the best friend, now picture them being shot at point blank and dying, graphic isn't it?
My question is why was the teacher going through her personal notebook? But anyways I believe that she didn't do anything wrong, but I do understand the school going through the procedure. But I guess I'm still not sure on the whole suspending part. I'm thinking they should have had her talk to the school counselor about the poem and I agree with the article on how writing and art help people through the recovering period.
I don't think it was right for her to get suspended. Poetry is supposed to be about expressing her feelings. The poem could have easily been supposed to be interpreted in a different way. Like her feeling depressed about the world, and what it has come to. There are many ways that poetry could be interpreted.
