Wang is Africa's last polar bear. Wang spends his days in the Johannesburg Zoo mourning his longtime companion GeeBee. They were together for 28 years. In January, GeeBee succumbed to a heart attack. Wang lost interest in everything, eating, sleeping, he wouldn't even swim anymore. Many of the workers at the zoo tried to lift his spirits. On Valentine's Day, they gave him a box covered in hearts and full of fruit and meat. Today, he has started to show more interest in food and swimming and zoo officials are still trying to find ways to stimulate and console him.
I really like this story. Yes it is sad but the zoo workers obviously really care about Wang and want him to be the happiest polar bear he can be.
What would you do if you were a person working in the zoo at a time like this? Would you try to comfort Wang? Replace GeeBee with a new bear? Or just let Wang be and leave him alone?

I would try to make the animal feel happy because it's sad seeing animals like that. I would defiantly try to comfort him because it would be sad seeing him die from starvation. I think I would put another bear in with him just so he has a partner in there and so that he isn't lonely anymore.
If I was a worker for the zoo I would try to help the polar bear too. Maybe a replacement for GeeBee would help.
He's just like a pet so i would try and comfort him if he was sad. im glad hes starting to get better
I'd get a couple more polar bears down to Africa! The sooner they learn to cope with heat, the better. Also, it would probably help Wang out a lot if he had more companions instead of just being alone all the time. It's actually proven that those who are alone for the majority of their life, are sadder, sick more often, and actually die more quickly due to flat out depression.
Oh, poor Wang! I'm not sure. Oh course I would try to comfort Wang if I worked at the zoo, but I don't know if it would be better to get a new polar bear, or just leave him be. I think it'd would be a little polar bear cub so he could teach it things and the zoo would have another polar bear when Wang goes.
That is actually a really good idea! Not replacing his mate but having another bear there that Wang could kind of look after! Awesome idea!
I would hate to see Wang like this. I would try my hardest to make him feel better. I would give it some time before replacing GeeBee with a new bear. I wouldn't want to see Wang by himself. But I would let him heal first before getting a new bear to help raise his spirits. Hopefully everything will turn out okay for Wang.
I would try to help him through it but if all else fails I'd get him another mate
If i worked at the Zoo I would try to help the bear, and i would replace the bear with a new one just to see if it worked.
