Head Transplant

Teams of researchers led by an Italian surgeon say they are preparing to perform a head transplant in 2017. They even recruited a volunteer. Dr. Sergio Canavero has proposed that a head transplant is possible with the new technology. The technology allows for the body to be cooled during surgery and there are new tools to create a cleaner cut on the spinal cord. The team says they will go through the surgery only if future research supports their plan. 

What do you think of a head transplant? Would you volunteer?  

I think that eventually it would be good for people with bad bodies but a healthy mind to have a opportunity to enjoy their life.

    I truly don't know what to think, because the more I think about it the more it doesn't seem physically possible. It seems a little weird and against nature.

    I'm not sure how I feel about this. I sure as heck wouldn't volunteer my head to be transplanted. It sounds like they're trying to play the role of God to me.

    I think it's a good idea and I think it will show how much our technology has advanced if it really works.

      I agree, it could also benefit people with their lives.

    I dont think that a head transplant is a good idea at all. If anything were to happen any little thing, the prosechure will be done right there because they couldent do any thing else it would be ruined. I would not volanter because if I dont live through it then I would nevefr see my family again so I would not risk it.

      It would benefit someone with a good brain but a bad body, and if it doesn't work then they would end up dying anyways.

    I think it is a pretty cool idea but at the same time its kind of a crazy idea. I mean there are so many factors to go through. And I wouldn't volunteer to be part of it.

    I think it seems kind of crazy, I'm not sure how it would turn out. I'm not sure if I would volunteer for sure.

    I can't believe that doctors are going to try this. The brain is so complex is seems like it would be impossible to get all the nerves of the spinal cord hooked up right to the nerves that would be coming out of the head. I also like Fay's point. Could we have people live longer if we could just take their face and attach it to a new body? Our society would certainly be interesting.
