Harlan Man Arrested for Murder

Nicholas Haner, of Harlan, was arrested on March 8th for his involvement in the murder of Adam Angeroth, of Council Bluffs. Haner went to school here at Harlan. Angeroth was found dead in his apartment on January 24 due to stab wounds and blunt force trauma, after it had been days since his family heard from him. Haner was one of three people charged in the murder, the others both from Omaha, one being 16 years old. Investigators haven't ruled out the chance of there being more arrests related to the murder.

How would you feel knowing that there is a murderer living in your area?

I would not be very concerned, since there has not been a murder in Shelby County for years and this one took place in Council Bluffs.

Do you think the murder was planned?

I think it was likely planned, since at least three people allegedly took place in it.

  • Good story choice and well done overall. I do think your questions could be stronger.

  • Because it did not happen in Harlan, I guess I don't think much of it.

I do think it was planned since 3 were involved.

  • I would not feel safe in the area, knowing that a murder happened near it. I would not be too paronoid to the point I move away. Murders rarely happen around me so, I would not worry too much. It sounds like the murder was planned, because who in their right mind would go and kill people for no reason. Unless, they are a psychopath.

  • If there was one in my area I would be a little concerned, but not to the point of being paranoid because it is not often that people in small-town Harlan are going to get murdered. It was definitely planned because at least three people supposedly took place in it and he was hidden from others.

    • I agree, it is concerning but not to the point where we need to stay up at night worrying about it. I would also agree that the chances are high that it was planned.

  • It would be concerning, one of the biggest murders in the area was Dixie Shannahan. That occured in 2002. I'm not sure if it was planned. If it was planned they would know the victim. If it was not planned, they would likely not know the victim.

  • Murder isn't something that people from small towns think about often. I'm not too concerned about it because it didn't happen in Harlan. I'm not really sure if it was planned or not. You can't really know if it was for sure unless the people involved tell you so. You would think that is was planned due to the multiple stab wounds and the blunt inforced trauma.

    • I agree. We hear about it on the news all time, but don't ever think about it happening in our town. I think it was planned, but I can see why you're not sure whether it was or not.

  • I am not very concerned because the murder didn't happen in Harlan. Plus there hasn't been a murder in Shelby County for a long time. It was more than likely planned since more than one person was involved in the murder.

    • I agree. I do not think there is really anything worth worrying about, since it did not take place here in Harlan. I also agree that it was more than likely planned based on the facts given.
