Gun Buyback Program

Springfield's recent gun buyback program and similar programs across the country are prime examples of the use of gun buybacks on the street. Shotguns, rifles, and handguns were turned in to authorities in exchange for a $50 or $25 gift card from Lt. Brian Beliveau. In New Jersey according to the standard prices set for the buyback, residents will be paid: $25 for Inoperable Firearms & BB/Pellet Guns, $125 for Rifles and Shotguns, $200 for Handguns, $250 for Assault Weapons Law enforcement firearms experts will be on hand at each location to assist with the valuation and securing of turned-in weapons. Basically, the same program is happening in NYC called the Cash for Guns Program. Through the NYPD they are offering $200 per every gun turned in to the police. The County of San Mateo had three successful events in 2018-2019, taking a total of 1,254 firearms collected. If I had a choice if this happened or not I would not let it happen. Considering that owning a gun is an American right.

Do you think that the government should offer money for guns?

Would you give up your gun and ammo to the government for these prices?

What would you do to change this?

  • i think that goverement shoouldnt offer money for guns. i think that they should be able to take them without any price but give a good reasoning for it.

  • In my opinion government shouldn't offer that kind of prices for the guns especially that cheap, I think they should take the guns away if they want us to without offering money.

  • I don't think that the government should offer money for guns. If the government wants guns so bad they should just tell people to give them back which I have a feeling that idea probably would not work out too well for the government. If the government offered me money if I had a gun I probably would not hand in the gun unless it was close to the price it cost to buy a gun in the first place.

  • I feel like this is just a way for the government to violate the second amendment without cutting through it. Which may be reaching. However the fact that theyre trying to basically bribe people to hand over their guns is just sad. Especially when the prices are so low its like they're asking for people not to participate. However, you do you.

  • I don't think that the government should offer money for guns. I personally wouldn't sell them to the government, especially for low prices like that. I don't think many other people would either.

  • I don't think they should even try and buy back guns. If they needed money then why wouldn't they raise taxes or something? Or if they are trying to get rid of guns why wouldn't they do something about gun laws. Not a lot of people are gonna give up their guns for such a low price.

  • I think they shouldnt offer money to buy back guns. they give you a terrible offer if you think about it because the money spent on the gun new, the ammo, and the accesories that are put on the guns. I personally would not sell my guns to the government for the price.

    • Agreed, those prices are not very tempting at all. I definitely wouldn't give them my gun for that price.

  • I don't think that the government should offer money to buy back guns.  I would not give up my guns for the money.  I typically buy my guns for more than they are offering.  I probably wouldn't give up my guns even if they were offering more money.
