Gun buyback program

Lots of people are for the Gun buyback program. The gun buyback program is basically the government trying to buy YOUR guns for a certain amount of money. It started in Philidelphia from 1968-1974, there was only 544 guns bought during those years. Baltimore tried to do the same and staged a 3 month long buyback program in 1974. They were offering a $50 a gun payment. Baltimores buy back program took in 13,400 rifles and 8,400 handguns in 1974. Gun homicides and assaults actually rose during the to month program but the crime rate increased. In 1994 researchers looked at the 1992 buyback in  Washington where 1,172 firearms were gave up. In the 2020 election candidates Cory booker, Bernie sanders, and Beto O' Rourke, have indicated support for gun buyback programs. In 2017 the most deaths from firearms are 59% from suicide, 36% from assult, 1% law enforcement,1% accidently, .85% undeitermined. So in the 2020 election alot of the democratic canidates were all in for the buy back program to try to help stop those deaths happening from firearms.

In my opionin this buyback program is a absoulute joke. The government is not thinking about the farmers/ranchers that have cattle and need to protect there calves. The right of having the 2nd ammendment is our right, the peoples right. Having this buy back program is invading our right. We should be able to own guns, and have the rights to buy them and bare arms. The gun buy back program is a terrible idea in my opinon people work hard to own guns because of the expense that it cost to own a gun. Keeping your family safe is important and owning a gun makes you feel so much safer.

Do you think they should try the gun buy back program again?

Do you think it is our right to own these guns?

What would you do if someone tried to take away your guns?

  • I dont think we should go back to the program. If it harms people and doesn't help they we don't need it. People should be able to keep there guns. People will stand up for what they think is right and won't let them take the gun if somone was trying ti take it.

  • Yes I think it is our right to own guns becasue people use them to defend themselves also dont let an idiot buy a gun and things wont go wrong.

  • We should not put back the program. Why do something that only harmed the people and not helped them. We have the right to have guns and that can not be taken away. I get that you can take someone gun if they did something wrong but other people that know what they are doing should not have there guns taken away. If someone tried to take away my gun I would tell them its my right, just because I have it does not mean im going to do bad things with it.

  • No they should not do a buy back program.  People have the right to keep their guns.  And $50 is a ridiculously little amount to get for gun.  I would hide mine if they were going to take them away.  If someone want to get rid of their gun they should sell it and make a lot more money than $50.

  • I wouldn't mind if they tried to install the gun buy back program again because it's not mandatory to the point where you have to give up your guns. Plus, it is our right to own these guns because of the second ammendment.  I don't think it's right to have someone take away guns from somebody else. Although, the government wouldn't be doing that because they are just offering you money if you turn your gun in voluntarily.

  • I think they should not have the gun buyback program because it is our human right to own a firearm, and that should not be taken away from us. People should be allowed to own a gun to protect their families and farm. The only reason why a person should not be able to own a firearm is if they have a bad criminal record or are just underaged to own a firearm.

    • I agree with you that it is our right to own guns.

  • I don't think they should have the buyback gun program again. Its our right to own the guns, and I do believe people don't have the right, to take our rights away. I honestly wouldn't be happy if they tried to take my guns.

  • I do think it should be used again because you still have a choice to either give it back and get money or keep the guns and get no money back it is like recycling I do think we have a right to own guns I have no guns to take away so I cannot answer the last question

  • I think the buyback program should be put back in place. Baring arms is our right, but you have the power to say no to the offer, so it's not an invasion of our right like you said. If someone tried to take my guns away, I would fight back, but it can be prevented just by saying no.
