Gun buyback program

Lots of people are for the Gun buyback program. The gun buyback program is basically the government trying to buy YOUR guns for a certain amount of money. It started in Philidelphia from 1968-1974, there was only 544 guns bought during those years. Baltimore tried to do the same and staged a 3 month long buyback program in 1974. They were offering a $50 a gun payment. Baltimores buy back program took in 13,400 rifles and 8,400 handguns in 1974. Gun homicides and assaults actually rose during the to month program but the crime rate increased. In 1994 researchers looked at the 1992 buyback in  Washington where 1,172 firearms were gave up. In the 2020 election candidates Cory booker, Bernie sanders, and Beto O' Rourke, have indicated support for gun buyback programs. In 2017 the most deaths from firearms are 59% from suicide, 36% from assult, 1% law enforcement,1% accidently, .85% undeitermined. So in the 2020 election alot of the democratic canidates were all in for the buy back program to try to help stop those deaths happening from firearms.

In my opionin this buyback program is a absoulute joke. The government is not thinking about the farmers/ranchers that have cattle and need to protect there calves. The right of having the 2nd ammendment is our right, the peoples right. Having this buy back program is invading our right. We should be able to own guns, and have the rights to buy them and bare arms. The gun buy back program is a terrible idea in my opinon people work hard to own guns because of the expense that it cost to own a gun. Keeping your family safe is important and owning a gun makes you feel so much safer.

Do you think they should try the gun buy back program again?

Do you think it is our right to own these guns?

What would you do if someone tried to take away your guns?

  • Great topic choice Gage! Your summary is good but you should have mentioned that the buyback programs have all been voluntary. Of course, the concern is that eentually, maybe they would be mandatory like Beta O'Rourke mentioned. Also be sure to comment more frequently and on three different days next time.

  • Personally, I don't think a gun buy back program would be beneficial condsidering all of your information. People have the right to own their own guns. I agree that people should be able to have their own guns to protect their family and more. If the government ends up taking our guns away, I think our society is going to become more socialistic.

  • I feel that it should not be a program because it is our right to bare arms. It also didn't work in the first place so why try it agian. If someone tried to take my guns I would not be very happy because it is a right to me to have one.

  • No I don't think they should. If it didn't help befor then why would it help now. Yes it is our right to own guns. If they do background checks which I think is ok. besides it don't matter if someone wants to do any kind of harm those people will get the guns wherever they can. I'd have all my gun's locked up and if someone came to take my guns I probly not be a very happy person and I don't think I would be very nice. There is a reason we have all our ammendments and the 2nd one I think if one of the most important cause it's all about right's and freedoms.

  • I think that they should definetly not bring back the gun buy back program. I think that it is the poeple of the United States right to bare arms and their should be nothing that sugests that you not own one. I think that the 2nd ammendment is one of the most important in the constitutuion.

  • I don't think the gun buyback program is a good idea.  I don't think that people are worried about the money I think people are worried about protecting themselves and how they live.  I believe that it is our human right to own guns but I don't know what I would do if someone tried to take my guns.

  • I do not think that the gun buyback program should ever happen again. It is our right to own are own guns. I think it is stupid that they think that it would work to help murders or deaths. People are shooting people not guns shooting people. If someone tried to take my guns I would be very mad.

  • I think it's up to you if you want to have a weapon or not as soon as you use it not for killing somebody or rob something. And I think if they would do the gun buy payback program again many people won't give their guns.

  • I think that gun buyback programs are stupid because it probably wouldn't take weapons from people who would do harm with it. I also believe that it is our right to own guns but it should be regulated and some people shouldn't be allowed to be around firearms. Furthermore, I believe that guns are not the main problem but rather poverty and people because people could do much worse if they wanted to if they didn't have acess to firearms.

  • So I think instead of buy back they could say you have to pay taxes or something to keep the gun.

I think in the unit States the guns are so part of the life that it is hard to change somehting about it and I think it is probably eith guns safer because all have it.

I would ask those people who they are and what their plans are with my gun because can I trust random people? Who knows if they plan soemthing horrible
