Guide Dog Saves Boy From Car

This is a link to a CNN video covering the story of a very brave guide dog. It displays the amazing bond between a dog and his owner. This dog sacrificed itself for his owner's son. When a car ran a stop sign, going rather fast through an intersection the dog jumped in front of the four year old boy. Therefor the four year old wasn't badly injured. The dog's owner, blind man Dave, and Simon, the dog, faced the brunt of the injury from the car. Simon then followed Dave's son all the way home even though Simon suffered from broken bones and internal bleeding. Once the son was safe Simon lied down and passed away.  This story really shows the amazing bond that owners and pets can have and they really are apart of the family. I think that's beautiful. Do you guys think pets understand what's happening? Or that they are really apart of a family? Do you have pets that are this important to you? That would be willing to risk their life for you?

  • Excellent job Emma!

  • this dog is a part of their family and I think knows it because he knew to jump in front of the boy and a dog wouldn't do that randomly for any person.

  • This story is very sweet and heart warming. I hope my dog would protect my family like this. I love my dog very much, along with our puppy. Simon shows true loyalty to his family and I do believe our pets are a part of our family. They are with us doing hard times, and help to cheer us up in different ways, just like a family member. Yes, dogs know what is going on.

    • That's great that your dogs do that!

  • i am very impressed that this dog was able to save this boy it makes me think twice before i would take my pets for granted

  • Yes I do think that animals do understand what's happening and that they know when they are a part of the family they also know when they are loved. Also I do have pets that are this important to me almost all my animals are, and yes some of them will do things like that.

  • I do believe that they know what is happening. I do believe that they are part of a family and are loved by a family just like a human being, at least that's my look at it. If you would take a couple that is not able to have kids, dogs could be used as of kids and loved the same way.

    • i agree!

  • I think this story is very touching. I think it's great that the dog did such a thing, but it sucks that Simon had to die.. I do think that dogs understand what's going on.   I feel like they are just like humans, but some what different also.  I consider all pets part of your family because I think that's how you should treat me.   Most pets will love you unconditionally whether you're sad, happy, poor or rich.

    • Care to elaborate on the human characteristics of pets?
