In Townsville, Australia an older scientist is on a mission to raise awareness on Earth’s future. John Vernon at age seventy-three is known as “The Godfather of Coral”. He has discovered almost a quarter of the worlds Coral species. Vernon has spent the last forty-five years diving around the Great Barrier Reef, and is now talking of the extinction of the underwater ecosystem. Between 2016 and 2017 heat waves caused by climate change mass bleaching, which killed half of the Coral Reef corals and others around the world. The Great Barrier Reef is about the same length of Italy- 2,300 km long. Earlier this year Australia announced nearly $400 million would be used for projects designed to help the Great Barrier Reef.

How do you think humans could help prevent the extinction of coral reefs?
I think humans could use less fossil fuels. We could even walk the two blocks to the store instead of drive.
What is your opion on the Great Barrier Reef?
I think the Great Barrier Reef is very cool. It is the only living organism seen from space. It is home to many species of fish. The Great Barrier Reef is something else that humans are destroying.

Well done Chloe!
Humans could help save the Great Barrier Reef or at least protect by finding ways to use other fuels. Like don't release as many toxins into the air as we do. We could create different machines that don't let off fossil fuels or as many of them.
In my opinion, the topic of waste has been widely debated for years. I totally agree with your writings, I feel that it is a huge issue and definitely needs to be talked about. There are many actions one could take to prevent such a horrible thing from happening. People could do things such as, recycling, making disintegratable packaging and donating food so there is not so much waste. There are so many beautiful animals and their habitats being destroyed from our own garbage and it needs to be changed. The Great Barrier Reef is a huge attraction and will no longer be open for visits if we do not make a change.
I agree, I also thing that we could try to use less fossil fuels. We could also try and recycle more so that garbage doesn't end up in the acean. Cause the garbage is not just hurting the reef it is also hurting the animals that live in the coral reef. I think that the coral reel is such an amazing, beautiful place. And the different types of sea animals that live ther are so fasinating and interesting. I love the amazing colors of the reef and the animals are amazing colors too. Its sad to see that human actions are hurting our world.
I think humans could prevent the extinction of coral reefs by not dumping garbage in the ocean and making the coral reefs a reserved habitat or a national park. My opinion on the Great Barrier reef is that I think it is beautiful because its full of all kinds of rare fish and underwater plants. I think we need to preserve the Great Barrier Reef.
I agree with Chloe, I think humans can help prevent this extinction by using less fossile fuels. Humans could also be aware of what they are throwing outside. Anythign you throw can end up in the Ocean.
The great Barrier is outstanding, so amazing. It just shocks my that it is the only living organism that can be seen from space. It just kills to see the exctinction because the reef belonged to so many species. I want to see humans try to stop this extinction.
I think humans could help prevent the extinction of coral reefs by being curteous of where they're throwing their trash/plastic, because trash/plastic can be very harmful to the coral reefs and the species that live there.
The Great Barrier Reef is incredible because it's the largest living thing on the entire planet. I think it's amazing how it's home to countless species of fish, dolphins, sharks, etc. I hope that we can come together and try to help prevent the extinction of the Great Barrier Reef so it can continue to be home to many species.
Yes, we could help by recycling, but not many people do recycle. The Great Barrier reef is incredible. I think that since we live in Iowa and not near the ocean, people think that it does not effect us.
We could do tons to help the environment such as walking more places, burning less fossil fuels, and recycling. If you live father away from where you want to get, you could even ride a bike instead.
I think it is a very important for many fish living there. Thousands of fish and other sea creatures call it a home so without it they wouldn't have anywhere to raise their young, or hide from preditors. Not only that but it's extremely gorgeous.
I agree we could to a lot to help our planet including walking, which alot of people do not do. It is very important because we would not want anyone to destroy our house, but we are doing the same thing to the fish.
