Govt. Shutdown

Republicans and Democrats can agree on that. It's everything else that has them bickering and blaming. And unless they strike a deal on a spending bill Monday, the government will begin closing shop at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday. After weeks of congressional back-and-forth, the ball is now in the Senate's court. It meets at 2 p.m. Monday to decide what to do next.A shutdown, while likely, isn't a foregone conclusion. The deadline is midnight -- and one day can be a long time on Capitol Hill. Do you think this is good for the U.S.?

  • Be sure to include a link to the actual story so people can learn more about it. This s a topic that is difficult to talk about unless they know some basic things.

  • No, I don't think this is good for the U.S because it's just spending more money for the shutdown and why would they want to do that if there already complaining about money.

  • This shutdown is bad for our country, it's going to cost us billions of dollars. While it hasn't affected my family directly... I know some people who have been affected and if the shutdown continues they're going to be hurting very soon. Congress needs to get something done and end the shutdown.

  • i think that during the shutdown they should raise everything people (with high income(rich)) pay for by a little bit just to help the low income families and help them with food and other essential needs in every day life.

  • I don't think that it has effected a lot of things in my everyday life. I was upset about this yesterday because i wasn't aware that the government passed to still pay the military. That would have upset me because my brother is a marine and definitely doesn't deserve to not get paid. I just think it is good that they are paying them because i don't get why they would have to protect them for no pay when we all know that the rich people that are involved in this are all gonna get their paychecks.

  • I don't really know what to think about the government shutting down.  It doesn't affect me very much as of right now.. But I don't know if it's really good for our economy.   I don't understand why we're shutting it down to save money, when it cost money to shut it down.  We don't really have much say in what happens next, let's just hope they figure something out.

  • I think the government shutdown has both positive and negative aspects to it. On one hand, it will make the parties start working together more, because they have to in order to open the government up again. On the other hand, families were already struggling to pay bills and buy food when getting paid, so what are they supposed to do with no income not eat for weeks? If the government is going to stay shutdown they need to start back up everything they put to a halt when it shutdown, so people are not so affected by their problems.

  • I think it is terrible for the government to shut down. Democrats and Republicans nedd to do one thing at a time and not try to solve everything at once.

  • I do think this is good for the U.S. Maybe our government will wake up and figure out a way to get us out of debt.

  • I dont like the fact that the government is shut down and people are off of work for up to weeks. This is not good for the U.S.  because it will cost billions of dollars.
