On April 24th, Joseph James DeAngelo was apprehended and taken into custody after DNA analyses concluded that he was the Golden State Killer. Suspected of 50 rapes and 12 murders in 10 different counties of California during the 1970's to 80's, this ex-cop and Vietnam veteran was not an original suspect. Six years after becoming a police officer, DeAngelo was fired for shoplifting from a drug store but supposedly committed his first of many crimes while still being apart of the law. Neighbors of DeAngelo say he didn't suspect him of this however, they thought he was indeed strange and awkward. DeAngelo is to be charged with the murders of Katie and Brian Maggiore, a couple killed in 1978. The arraignment will be soon.

Questions:
1. After all of these years, why do you think the police were still looking into these cases instead of newer ones?
2. DeAngelo committed these crimes in several different counties of California but the cases were never connected. Why do you think this is?
My Answers: Some cops were probably so dedicated to finding this killer since the beginning I can image that they just couldn't let it go. I think the cases were never connected because their wasn't "enough evidence" or that the counties were so distant that they just didn't communicate.

Well done Morgan!
Maybe some of the cops that have the need to keep onto something until it is over with and so maybe a cop or cops would not let this go until they find out hat happened to this person. There might not be enough evidence for them to be connected.
The drive of some of the police, in this case, must have been extremely dedicated and focused to close it. There seemed to be enough evidence in the cases for a connection, but one was never made until now.
I think it is important to find the killer because there have been countless people and families that are still feeling the effects from him. There were so many people that were left without closure and justice. I think that they were never connected because there were no eye witnesses or anyone who confessed to it.
The fact that so many people who were hurt by this man have a certain amount of closure and knowing that this man is off the streets makes me feel glad that there are still hard-working policemen and women out there trying to make the U.S. a better place.
I think it is important for the police to find a solution for any murderers. It is their work, and I would personally hate if I didn't find a solution for a murder. Maybe there wasn't enough evidence.
Some cops are sloppy with their work and most likely choose older unsolved cases so they don't have to do much to try and find evidence as to who the killer was. The countries are most likely very distant from one another
1) I think that the law enforcemint just gets to a point where they want to get one person and I think that this was that guy that they wanted to gett
2) I think thata the evience wasn't there and that since they wern't in the same place they were harder to find.
There definitely must have been some commitment put into this case because dwelling on a case for 40 years isn’t an easy thing to do. DeAnglo must have covered up this work to some extent because any normal killer would have been caught under these circumstances.
Maybe a family member keeps bringing it up to the police and they started looking again and found the killer. The connection was probably never made because stealing is nothing like killing. They both are breaking the law but I don't think a small crime will be linked to a major one.
