Going to Jail for Killing a skunk?

In Bloomington, Illinois killing a skunk in the country isn't a problem, but in the city it is. A young college student, Andrew Baldini, was a part of a fraternity that killed a skunk with a shovel late in October when it crossed the basketball court. The police were notified and showed up at their house. The fraternity members told the police they were having issues with the skunk, but the officers weren't amused. He was arrested and charged with animal cruelty a felony.

Story

Why did Andrew Kill the Skunk?

Why was his charges so bad?

I think they were just fed up with the skunks, and weren't aware of the things that could of happen to him. Even though it wasn't extremely bad I think all animals should be treated equal.

  • Good job overall! I do think your questions could be stronger.

  • I think he was probably just annoyed with the skunk always being around, but they could have called a number to report an issue with the skunk instead of killing it. I believe they charged him because he killed an innocent animal.

    • I think you make a good point that the animal was innocent.

  • Because it was bother him and his friends. I think his charges were so bad because he killed an animal for the simple reason "it was bothering us". I think there were better ways to deal with that than to kill it, but I don't know what the animal was actually doing.

    • Do you think the charges would of changed if they weren't frat boys?

  • Because the skunk was bothering them and they were probably just tired of seeing it. If they would have killed him differently instead of a shovel I think that would have been better.

  • The skunk was obviously bothering them and they have probably seen it multiple times. I don't know why his charges were this bad, and I find his punishment ridiculous.

    • What do you think the charges should of been ?

  • I think because he was tired of it always showing up on the basketball court and like he said it was giving him problems and so he killed it. I don't know I mean its just a skunk like its like people hitting them or killing Deere.. I don't get it

  • I feel like what they did was perfectly justified if a pest of any kind were to come up to me you better believe that I would kill it. I don't know why the charges were so bad but what confuses me how did the police get notified to begin with. As long as they killed it quickly I feel like its not animal cruelty, maybe if there was evidence of torture they should get charged but Idk.
