Give yourself flu vaccine without needles

Georgia State University has been developing a micro needle patch that dissolves into the skin as a simple way for people to  give themselves vaccines. Its not a liquid, the flu vaccine uses dry virus particles that coat the micro needle patch that makes it unnecessary for the patches to be refrigerated. The micro needles are seven tenths of millimeter long small enough to have  no pain while instead of having pain of being stuck with a  needle. I think this is a good invention and a great step for medicine. Is this patch a new and more efficient way of getting medicine. Or will it not be properly inserted or effective without doctor supervision.

  • I think this would be very good for people who are scared of shots or people who faint when given a shot. This could be both a good and bad thing, good for the medical industry, and a bad thing for drug users who will just shoot up real quick and be all drugged out.

    • I think this is more liked than shots. More people would probably use these than getting shots.

  • This makes me very very happy. I personally hate needles and the nasal spray feels funny, but this is genius. I think maybe a doctor should give you that patch just to be safe but it is better than a needle.

    • That is the main point for the patch for people that don't like the shots.

  • This sounds like it would be really good for kids, but it should be restricted to hospitals. Otherwise, the prices will go up to make it expensive to misuse (just look at cough syrup, it's like $5 for a bottle of NyQuil). People will use anything even vaguely drug-like as a drug, and it hurts the rest of us.

    • I agree the hospital should only have to give these out.

  • Well I personally hate shots, so this would be a cool thing to try out. I don't really believe that vaccines work though. I've gotten the flu maybe 3 times in my whole life.

    • Well this would be good for you if dont like shots.

  • I think that this is a great new invention for families with kids who are afraid of shots. I think this because when kids know they are getting shots, some of them usually freak out. My opinion on this story is because adults don't need to put up with the screaming and crying of their kids anymore, now all they have to do is stick a patch on their arm so I am all for this new medicine patch and I think that doctors need to keep researching on this.

    • Good point. Parents wouldnt have to deal with all the screaming.
