Recently, Target announced that they will not be sorting toys among 'girl' and 'boy' categories. They claim that they will be trading out pink and blue colored shelves for a more gender-neutral (to be suitable to both male and female) colors.
Previous studies in the past show that the impact of of gender on traits make up different personalities.
Target's main idea behind the gender neutral marketing is to 'strike a better balance' and 'open up a whole world of possibility for kids'. Target is not the only company going down this path-it has been done by Hasbro.
"When we tell children dolls are for girls and trucks are for boys, we're telling them not only are you a boy or a girl, but that being a boy or a girl is going to determine how you think and act and the skills you will develop," says University of Kentucky psychology professor Christia Spears Brown, the author of "Parenting Beyond Pink and Blue: How to Raise Kids Free of Gender."

Do you think that it is a good idea for companies to start gender neutral marketing? What do you think the end result will be, if they decide to follow through?

Interesting topic! Well done!
I think its a bad idea to change stuff around because not every guy wants to be a girl nor does every girl wants to be a guy the should keep it how it is right now
I don't think it is right to take away boy and girl toys away and put more gender-neutral toys in their place. And being told you are a boy a girl doesn't affect your way of thinking. Being a boy or a girl affects the way you think. It's common knowledge.
I think that it's a good thing and a bad thing. It's a good thing because it stops sexism and helps kids who play with other types of toys. It's bad mostly because it'll upset a lot of families and conservative people.
I think that the idea is good. You shouldn't put so much pressure on a kid about toys I mean they are just kids they will be who they are as they get older.
I think it is a great idea that they are doing this. There is no reason for a child to feel pressured by what they want to buy. I think the end result will be great, no child should feel pressured by a color on a sign.
I think that this is a good idea so that kids won't feel pressured to be something they are not. If a child wants Barbie dolls, let them have Barbie dolls. We need to stop making people's decisions for them and let them be themselves.
I think that gender neutral items can be a good idea. The result will probably end it a lot more of children smiling. This is the way to teach how men and women should be equal from an early age!
I agree-I don't think a color (pink or blue) will stop a child from getting what they want-it's their decision
Quite honestly I dont care one little bit. All the people that complain about this kind of stuff need to get a life or something because really there are more things that you should be worrieing about in this world then combinding the opposite genders colors and toys.
